[edit] Tennessee wikiproject

Hi A.B., was wondering if you were interested in joining the Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennessee. There's not many of us, but I know you're interested in Tennessee things. Thanks! --AW 21:29, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Note

Hi A.B. I dug up the two diffs Hipocrite was referring to; see here. Both seem to encompass completely reasonable sentiment to me. Picaroon 18:42, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, for researching this. --A. B. (talk) 19:04, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the laugh!

Uh-oh -- what did I do? --A. B. (talk) 18:43, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Um... Opppose -> Opppose per above. I thought it was intentional. —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 19:31, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding Jreferee's Rfa

Hello, I noticed your comment in the Rfa. I respect your opinion; this is not an attempt to start an argument. But I must say: I don't see how you could have read the oppose votes and the links included therein and say that the candidate's carefully researching controversy is something you rest your support on. Look, it's pretty clear to me this Rfa is going to be successful, and there are a lot of big names supporting. But I'm against the reasoning behind some of the support, based on things like user page, "brilliant" article contribution, and sometimes no reasoning at all. The fact is an admin, in my very humble opinion, is someone trusted for their cautious equanimity and resistance to bias or rush to judgment, and that is something that even the few oppose votes clearly demonstrate to be lacking in this candidate. Thank you for your time, --Tractorkingsfan 05:08, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comment. I apologize my belated response; I've been away.
This was one of the toughest RfA choices I've made as I think Jreferee has the potential to be an unusually good admin for the reasons I pointed out. However, after reading the comments added after mine and on further reflection I have switched my position to "neutral" for now. --A. B. (talk) 15:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Thank you for support in my unsuccessful RfA. I appreciate the support, and am disappointed on being judged by what in most opinions seem to be the wrong things. Until next time, edit on! :) — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 03:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help with images

Hi, Can you please take a look here and comment. Thanks. Sarvagnya 23:18, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not an authority on templates, copyright or India so I'm afraid I don't have much to say about Template:PD-India other than it seems like a useful tool to have. --A. B. (talk) 23:26, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disabling link to www.deathcamps.org/occupation/ghettolist.htm

I am a little confused about the reason for disabling the link in my comments on the talk page. If it is because there is a copyright issue--which is not clear to my small brain from the link you provided--OK. However, if it is because it is a "soon-to-be-discredited" link then it is perhaps premature to disable the link, particularly since the url is indicated. I stand by my comments on the usefulness of the page. Isn't it a little unusual to edit somebody's comments on a talk page rather than just adding a comment. But if it is a copyright issue then I understand even if it isn't clear to me why only disabling the link deals with the issue. Or perhaps there is something else?--Joel Mc 03:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I don't think anybody on Wikipedia or Meta is judging the value of the content of these links -- it's all about copyright and legal responsibilities.
I'm not in charge and not even an admin, just someone who does a lot of spam cleanup. When I saw that these links were being blacklisted, I checked and saw that 40+ talk pages had those links and were about to get "locked up" from editing, so I went around breaking the links. If you read the discussion at m:Talk:Spam blacklist#Intellectual property dispute (permanent link), you'll see that this is apparently an OTRS issue of some urgency.
If a link is on the m:Spam blacklist, then any page it appears on is frozen until the link is removed. Editors trying to save an edit get a message flash up on their screen that the talk page is non-compliant and changes cannot be saved until the offending link is deleted. On a long talk page, it may take 10 to 15 minutes to find the link, especially if it's embedded. Many people miss the one sentence that tells them what to do about it so they end up frustrated and confused at either m:Talk:Spam blacklist#Proposed removals or MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist asking for help and waiting for an answer. So I'm spending several hours trying to do this now to spare a lot of other editors from frustration. (I still haven't found the links on several extremely long talk pages.)
These two sites are not blacklisted yet but I think that's only because they're trying to find someone on the other languages' Wikipedias to take the links out of article space. Once they're out of articles, then they'll be blacklisted whether or not they're still on talk pages. --A. B. (talk) 12:38, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for this. I have something to learn about the procedures, particularly spam related ones. I have been busy this past year and have thus only reverted that which appears on the pages I watch out of interest. But I see with such an enormous problem, I am going to have broaden my anti-spam activity, but like most don't want to through babies out without the bathwater.--Joel Mc 06:53, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Complaints from 72.24.79.46/24.119.101.26

How can you assume this? A.B. How can you assume that [[2]] this user is connected with the sites and ip you have associated them with? According to wikipedia.org it is this users first edit. Please correct or let us know how you have came to this conclusion with proof. You also warned this user: As well preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist. Are you telling this user to control everyone's actions on the Internet, wikipedia.org? Impossible! Please don't erase and make me publish a copy on a page that gets logged. Let's work this out together.

[edit] Operationmajoritypower

Hi there. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have removed the warnings and apologised. Obviously I should have headed to bed 10 minutes sooner than I did. Regards, Flyguy649talkcontribs 19:23, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I knew without a doubt your warnings were not malicious. You were not alone. Those edits of Operationmajoritypower's at first looked very fishy -- one of those change-the number-slightly vandal attacks which I think are especially insidious. When I looked closer, they turned out to be totally legit. I saw he'd merely reversed the order of the stats. I only happened to see your warnings because I did the same double-take myself on another of his edits and looked at his talk page. Fortunately, it wasn't my bed time yet! --A. B. (talk) 19:31, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that Operationmajoritypower has also started to use the edit summary to note the changes. It might have helped. Thanks again, Flyguy649talkcontribs 19:52, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] movie reviews

How were my links to MovieMirth wrong? In the guideline of external links that are ok it says reviews and articles are fine. All my MovieMirth links were to movie reviews about bad movies. How did those violate any rules?
—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.134.41.88 (talkcontribs) 20:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi. A couple of other editors tried to explain this to you and left you links to these important Wikipedia rules which should have answered your questions when you read them in March:
The other two editors also told you not to add these links again, but you did so anyway.
Even if your links were encyclopedia-quality, they still would be inappropriate because you are not allowed to add links to your own site -- it's a conflict of interest and doing this is considered spamming and dealt with as spam.
You are welcome to ask for a second opinion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam if you still disagree after reading those rules. --A. B. (talk) 21:56, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Flags of ethnic groups -- suggestion

Hi. I don't mean to sound critical in my comments at the AfD about your nomination of this article but I really do encourage you to follow the AfD procedure's notification requirements (proper edit summaries) and suggestions (notifications to contributors) in the future. From my own experiences with articles I've taken to AfD, I found I've had better luck when I do this. --A. B. (talk) 15:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I was planing on doing that. I generally do not nominate large articles for deletion (it is generally nonsese, pov fork, and etc). -- Cat chi? 16:39, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I understand. I did make a "dummy edit" to the article so I could put the AfD in an edit summary. Also, I left a message about the AfD at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Heraldry and vexillology#Broader question about flag articles raised at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Flags of ethnic groups (wow, that's a long wikilink!). You may want to chip in there with your thoughts.--A. B. (talk) 16:44, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question of the day

Spammers and critics can't agree -- is User:A. B.:

A. "She (because clearly she's a bitch) is just doing her thing up in New Jersey. No one likes you, mother of three. No one."[4]
B. "Worst of all this user is very offensive to females."[5]
  • Later in the same edit: "It makes us females seem very unhappy to think wikipedia.org has something against all females."
  • Same user also edits as Tony.dean[6]
C. All of the above.
D. None of the above.
E. Somedays one, somedays another

You decide. --A. B. (talk) 16:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ridiculous

Well sorry about the treatment you got on John T. Reed. Someone there has already got my prize for the most pathetic sysop I have ever come across but I'll leave you to guess which of the several sysops I mean... :) --BozMo talk 20:22, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I'll survive but it was pretty unimpressive. I guess constructing the "Question of the Day" above was my therapy. --A. B. (talk) 13:30, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

Thank you for the support vote in my recent RfA. Although it wasn't successful I appreciate your vote of confidence. Anyway, I'm continuing on with editing Pacific War-related articles and hopefully you'll see several of them on the FA nominations page in the future. Cla68 23:05, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
