Albert Ross Eckler (May 22, 1901March 14, 1991) served as deputy director of the United States Census Bureau from 1949 to 1965, and its director from 1965 until 1969. He was the first career employee ever to become director of the agency. He authored The Bureau of the Census (ISBN 0-275-55370-1), and was president of the American Statistical Association. He is the father of centenarian researcher A. Ross Eckler, Jr..
