Aïn Beïda

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aïn Beïda is a small town located in the Wilaya (Province) of Oum el Bouaghi, Algeria. It is south east of Constantine and north of Khenchla.

Population: Its population consists of a mix of Arabs and Berbers (known as Shawiyya).

History: The town center still features a garden that houses Roman ruins, which indicates that the town has a rich long history that is, unfortunately, still ignored by historians of the Roman Empire.

Aïn in Arabic means eye, while in eastern Algerian dialect it means fountain. Thus, Aïn Beïda literally means "White (Beïda) Fountain (Aïn)". The whiteness refers to the purity of the water that springs from the said fountain.
