A&E Records is a sub-unit of the Warner Music Group, which began life as Mushroom UK. This label was set up in 1993 by Korda Marshall, as an offshoot of the Australian label Mushroom Records, mainly to serve the UK with Australian musical imports.
After a few low-key signings, the label signed a deal with the US rock group Garbage as well as bringing over Australian chart star Peter Andre. In the late nineties the group licensed UK group Muse from Taste Media and with Ash on sub-label Infectious charting highly brought the group to the front stage of music in the UK.
After a 20 month negotiation, in 2003 the United Kingdom Mushroom concern was turned into the A&E concern, with all of its roster transferring over to the label's buyer (Warner Music Group), where Korda Marshall accepted a top level post.
Mushroom Records last release was the Garbage single "Shut Your Mouth". Since then (and similarly to Circa trading as EMI/Virgin and VC trading as Hut) A&E recordings have mostly appeared under the main Warner Music brands, with Muse appearing on Helium 3 and a few releases being farmed out to the Infectious brand.
