It is an asteroid found on 3 February 1921 from Barcelona by the Catalan astronomer Josep Comas Solá (1868-1937). Its diameter is 25.5 km.

It is named for the city of Barcelona (Catalonia), birthplace of the discoverer and also whence it was discovered.
