905 music scene
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 905 area code has produced some of the most well-known bands in Canadian Music in recent years. Nestled between the surrounding areas of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Buffalo, New York, USA, the area code is made up of large cities Hamilton, Brampton, Burlington, Oshawa, Whitby, Oakville, Mississauga and St. Catharines and smaller cities and towns such as Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Milton and Stoney Creek. For a full list of cities in the 905 area code, see the 905 area code article.
The area has always produced a large number of bands and musicians considering the relatively small size of the cities and towns.

[edit] Relevance
Many bands and musicians from the 905 music scene have made serious headway into both the Canadian and International music scenes.
A number of magazines and online zines have been talking about the incredible number of garage bands from the 905 who have been becoming popular touring bands recently - especially younger bands like Alexisonfire, Boys Night Out and Silverstein [1].
Of course, much of the relevance of a music scene is often determined by labels signing bands. The 905 music scene has been a popular place for labels to find talent.
