From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, thank you for your interest in Wikipedia. I saw your recent comments appended to the Buddhism article, and I moved them to Talk:Buddhism, where they are more appropriate. Please do not add editorial comments to the actual articles, but use the talk page instead. I'm afraid you may have a few misconceptions about the way Wikipedia works. You begin your comments as follows: "Plea to the administrator of the Wikipedia page on Buddhism: The editor of your main entry on Buddhism seems to be an adept of the Theravada school." Note that Wikipedia articles do not have one specific administrator, editor, or author. The administrators administrate the whol encyclopedia and number several hundred; the Buddhism page is edited and written by everybody -- including you! That said, I believe your supposition concerning Theravada influence on this page is incorrect. The two authors who are active in adding material about Tathagatagarbha and Buddha-Nature are both definitely Mahayana Buddhists and -- regardless of what one thinks of their conclusions -- they are well-versed in Mahayana literature. I myself, on the other hand, am probably the most active of the many authors of the Buddhism page, and I am certainly not a Theravada Buddhist, either. It's true that some authors may have absorbed the pro-Theravada bias of earlier Western scholarship, although I doubt that this applies to the two authors of most of Tathagatagarbha stuff. With regard to the other points you made in your comments, I hope there will be ensuing replies on Talk:Buddhism, so please watch that page for conversation. As always, feel free to edit the articles in question as much as you want. Feel free, as well, to contact me on my talk page. - Nat Krause 08:54, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)
