Please don't vandalise River Thames. If you want to remove material you must justify it. — Trilobite (Talk) 22:37, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I was actually shocked to see that changes were live, shouldn't all edits be approved b4 publication?

Well they are approved, but after publication, by the community as a whole. If you notice someone vandalising or inserting errors or removing material, as I did with you, then you go and change it back. There are so many people keeping an eye out that most vandalism is removed within about five minutes, and it's more like seconds for the really popular articles. It does actually say on the edit screen right next to the submit button:
"Your changes will be visible immediately. If you would just like to test or practice editing, please do that in the sandbox. You are encouraged to create, expand, and improve upon articles; however, bad edits to articles are watched for and will be quickly removed."
Evidently you didn't read this.
If you are interested in contributing, and we always welcome new users even if they make a mess at first, I recommend having a look at the welcome page. You could also have a look at the FAQs. Plenty of people are shocked to discover anyone can just edit anything, so this might help you to understand how it all works.
If you feel like doing any more tests please do so in the sandbox instead of in an article. Thanks.
