[edit] Re: Ignorance
Mind if I field this one, Severa? I saw it on your Talk page.
75.3.3.245, on Wikipedia we have what's called an Neutral Point of View policy. I'd suggest you read it. Essentially, where there are major conflicting views, all significant points of view must be represented. Many people believe abortion rights to be a social justice issue. Thus, it is listed in that category as a point of controversy over social justice issues.
Now, just because it's in that category does not mean Wikipedia is saying that abortion rights are socially just. It simply shows that it is debated whether abortion rights are just, on the grounds of social justice. Does that make sense?
You should also review WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL, because I don't think you followed either guideline very well in your complaint to Severa. Severa has done as much or more work on abortion-related topics than anyone else on Wikipedia; though people disagree with some of his decisions (just as with everyone else), he knows this topic very, very well. --BCSWowbagger 20:42, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Not at all, BCS. I just thought that I would note, 75.3.3.245, that in your second edit summary, you stated, "The intentional taking of human life goes against the meaning of social justice." Many people, especially those who call themselves "pro-choice," do not think of abortion in such terms. They believe that it is necessary to allow women the right to control their bodies in order to ensure equality, and, thus, social justice; pro-lifers, on the other hand, believe that abortion violates the right to life of the unborn and that this right must be protected to to ensure social justice. Both the pro-life and pro-choice movements believe themselves to be advancing the interests of equality and human rights.
- To exclude either from the "Social justice" category, essentially, would be to comment on that movement's validity. This would be counter to NPOV, which holds that Wikipedia remain neutral, and not take sides on any issue. I understand that you are a new editor, and, thus, I would recommend familiarizing yourself with some of Wikipedia's policies — especially the central ones, like NPOV. This will help you understand how Wikipedia works. -Severa (!!!) 21:40, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
