I stand by the claim ... see Talk:South Asia Analysis Group for an additional WP:COPYVIO problem from a second website ... OTOH, I have turned the external links into citations ("This is who said it"), but it's still kinda iffy. --72.75.72.174 04:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rafed.net

AfD is there, your participation would be appreciated. --W.marsh 03:30, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Al-islam

Yeah, alright. I'll start a new AfD later this evening (I don't think I should add it into the Rafed one, but I'll include a link to there). Trebor 19:57, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The HarleyQuinn.com Argument

The following is a copy&paste of comments from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al-islam.org (second nomination) about why popularity is not the same as notability ... I've edited it to change the user names, and to present a single thread rather than just replies and rebutalls. --72.75.72.174 13:39, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Moved to User:72.75.72.174/Harley-Quinn.com Argument to get broader exposure --Dennette 16:23, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

See also: User:The Transhumanist/Virtual classroom/Elaragirl, about deletion and deletionism ... I'll change the user names, but I'll have to keep the references to al-islam.org and Shi'a as part of the reference to the original source. --72.75.72.174 11:36, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rafed.net

No doubt any sources are helpful. Whether they are helpful enough will be resolved at the Deletion Review. Tyrenius 05:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Suspected use of Wikipedia to garner notability for others

While doing simple cleanups and adding {{cite web}} tags to articles, I have stumbled across a couple of users who apparently have personal agendas that they are using Wikipedia to further, although I'm not willing to speculate on their motivation ... what I have observed is a pattern of behaviour that is suspicious, and a total lack of regard for WP:RS and WP:V policies with regards to WP:NOTE ... but quite aside from trying to use Alexa/Googlee/Yahoo rankings to side-step WP:WEB, there are a buch of articles that seem to have been created in support of each other, like a house of cards.

[edit] User:Striver

I'm really not sure of the motivations of Striver (talk contribs), but here are some articles that they have created ...

These are all articles that lack reliable sources that can be verified to establish notability for inclusion in Wikipedia ... in most cases, the only articles liked to tem are each other ... most of the "references" are to Alexa/Google/Yahoo rankings, or listings in university directories, as their only claim to notability.

[edit] 22:15, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

OK, it's starting to make more sense ... on 2006-12-01, Striver created Imamate: The Vicegerency of the Prophet, an article about a book ... they then went around adding quotations from the book and references to Al-islam.org in existing articles, or created biographical articles for people mentioned in that text using it as the only reference for them ... looks like they're trying to side-step WP:NOTE by saying, "Oh, this must be a reliable source because it's in Wikipedia!"

So, create a page for a book that is only available on-line, then create a bunch of articles about otherwise NN historical figures, and cross-linking adds verisimilitude to both ... from what I can see of WP:BK, this is Not Even Close to being notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia, and it is being used as the sole reference for articles that otherwise do not meet WP:BIO.

Well, someone did a Speedy Delete on that article, but the "What links here" left some breadcrumbs for me to follow ...

Well, that should keep me busy for a while, but the real key lies in List of Shia books, where I found

... and once again, the game is afoot!

Well, from prod to CSD to DRV in less than 24 hours ... Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 January 2#Imamate: The Vicegerency of the Prophet ... looks like the excement is about to impact the ventilating unit.

[edit] User:Bakasuprman

Then there is Bakasuprman (talk contribs) who led me to the following ...

When I checked "What links here", I found these other articles (alphabetical list) ...

After creating the SAAG article, User:Bakasuprman went around adding links to essays from the SAAG website into Wikipedia articles for individuals ... some of these individuals seem NN, but because SAAG has a Wikipedia article, they have tried to use essays posted on the site as WP:RS references in {{cite web}} and {{cite journal}} for notability, which is esentially bootstrapping their notability, i.e., "this subject is notable because they are mentioned in an article on a website that Wikipedia says is notable". On the flip side, some of these individuals have met WP:BIO with no contest, and the links to essays on the SAAG site add to its notablity by showing "see how many Wikipedia articles link here?" ... these SAAG essays are mostly authored by a "B. Raman" (see Talk:South Asia Analysis Group#Who does B. Raman represent?), whose only claim of notability or being a "known authority" is that they write essays for SAAG.

[edit] Summary

I'm not sure where all of this is going, but I wanted to collect these links in one place for later reference. --72.75.72.174 16:52, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
