Hi. I can see you have put a lot of work into the Skipanon River, but I'm afraid it appears to be a copyright violation. You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ. Basically, everything you see on the web should be presumed to be copyrighted unless it specifically says it's not-- it doesn't need a copyright notice. The facts aren't copyrighted, but the expression is. You need to completely rewrite it in your own words; otherwise, I'm afraid I'll have to take the article back to where it was when you started.

Of course, if I'm wrong, and the source really is public domain, please let me know ASAP. Thanks, Mwanner | Talk 13:56, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

How can you go beyond the mouth of a river? You can't, then it would not be a tributary of that river. You can go in the mouth to the ocean, but not BEYOND.

You wrote:

5) Skipanon Watershed report text. As land owner and part of the Skipanon Watershed, I can assure you these are okay to use.

OK. You're right about #2 and #3, no problem. But you might have to do some legwork (well, email work) to get to keep the rest. Under current copyright law, any published text is automatically copyrighted, and no copyright notice is required. An author has to take an active step to avoid copyright-- explicitly placing the work in the public domain, or licencing it under a GFDL or equivalent licence. So for sources #1, #4 and #5, you would need to get something in writing from them releasing the text for use on Wikipedia and reuse by any of our mirror sites. My guess is, you'd have mixed results at best. I need to do some hunting to find just what you would need-- I'll try to get to it tomorrow.

But, understand, it is the language that you have used from these sources that is a problem (as per above), but the facts aren't. If you rewrite the material in your own words, you're home free-- no copyright issues at all. That's what I would recommend-- you'd probably end up with a better article, and you'd be bound to learn something in doing it (and improve your writing skills while you're at it). But either approach is OK. I'll get you more info tomorrow. Meanwhile, you might want to look at Wikipedia:Copyrights, Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ and if you want more, any of the articles in Category:Copyright law. Or better still, ignore all that and start the rewrite.

OK, the page I promised was Wikipedia:Confirmation of permission, though it looks to me as if the first See also link on that page, Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission gets into it more completely with the whole licence mess.
