From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I like the Wikipedia: it's a good source to consult first and get a summary of something, so you know what to search for afterwards and what to expect. I also dislike the Wikipedia: it's untrustworthy and suffers from poor writing and conflicts. It seems to me that while someone might write an article well, pieces of it would devolve closer to the writing of the average contributer. The good writer at least could set up the structure of the article and it would probably largely remain the same, but people would add to paragraphs without regard to the flow of the writing and maybe even change completed parts thinking it's for the better. I'm frequently irked by how bad the writing is, contrary to my experiences with traditional encyclopedias. I haven't substantiated this by the way, but rather I'm being lazy and relying on feelings.

I contribute because sometimes I just can't stand to see the flaws. That and it's fun.

I haven't made an account because I like the bit of anonymity between edits I have currently. I may however make an account if I discover a way in which it might be useful.

Update 2007-02-05:

I'm done with Wikipedia. It hasn't been fulfilling at all. People inevitably revert any significant changes I make to poor articles, and I don't have the will to fight them over it. Apologies to those who asked me questions recently, but as it happens I don't know the answers anyway.
