[edit] Disambig
Hi, Please don't leave entries in the disambig pages with no links. Red links are perfectly valid; it simply means that the subject matter is article-worthy, but the article hasn't been written yet. If the subject is not article-worthy in its own right, and there isn't (or isn't likely to be) an article which coverts the subject (amongst other things), then it probably shouldn't be included at all.
In the second case, this means that you can still link to a parent article, something like
- Audio tape, a form of magnetic tape
if audio tape doesn't need an article in its own right. But having no links at all is not really helpful.

[edit] on days of the year articles
it is common practice to write '''[[October 26]]''' because that allows users to read it as October 26 or 26 October depending on their preference settings. cheers, Kingturtle 21:56, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Please do not make duplicate years into links. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Days of the year for more information about Days project formatting. Rklawton 05:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind. I read the page upside down. Thank you for helping format this article properly! Rklawton 05:57, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Me again. Please leave spaces for non-linked years in date articles so that the dashes line up neatly. This makes scanning the years while in edit mode faster. Thanks! Rklawton 03:35, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- What he said. Best wishes, Rich Farmbrough 16:36 26 April 2006 (UTC).

- Well, what's your problem with it in the first place? The kid didn't just dive right into acting. He can sing and plays the piano, he was a stage performer at one time. What's wrong with including that part? The article isn't even long. TripleH1976, 10:19 pm February 1, 2006. (UTC)

- I've got some external utils that I use sometimes, and poke values in to, some of them don't like spaces. Not used often, but I find it helpful. Wiki treats all " "'s as "_"'s anyway in links. [edit] My Userpage
- It's generally just a good idea to not edit people's User pages at all (even to correct my poor grammar : o) , as people will think it is vandalism. --Banana04131 22:37, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Robot? Female robot?
I noticed that you made changes to a bunch of user pages (including mine) that changed some underscores into spaces where WP treats them the same. I'm perfectly happy with that, in my own case... though I see a couple users complained of it. I'm guessing this is some sort of automated script you run or wrote, since it would be an odd thing to find by hand in a systematic way. Some advice though: I think it would be good manners to do this type of thing as a named account rather than anonymously. It would avoid raising red flags in people who saw their user pages changed. If that's all the account did, you could call the account something like "Underscore_bot" (or whatever). Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 05:35, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Editing user page
To the user who edited my user page, thank you for your small amendment to page, regardless of how useless it was. The main problem is you shouldn't edit people's user pages nor add userboxes to an anon talk page. Get yourself an account and you might be taken seriously. --Dynamo_ace 10:20, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Let's review
Do not edit other peoples user pages. It is their space. From the above, mine is not the only user page being changed. --Banana04131 01:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
I guess other people don't appreciate it, but thanks for correcting that teeny-tiny error for me.
[edit] I appreciate the thought, but...
You should not replace "_" with " " in anchor links, like [[Some page#Some_section]] as it will break them(I think). JesseW, the juggling janitor 04:31, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aloysius Snuffleupagus
Howdy, I noticed you removed a paragraph from the Aloysius Snuffleupagus article. It seems to be a controversial move since several people have reverted it, so I have started a discussion about it on the talk page, and would like to invite you to join in there. Thanks for your work, --Hansnesse 05:33, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

- Thank you for not assuming I was a reckless vandal. I very much appreciate it. 69.138.229.246 05:36, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
No problem, I went ahead, after discussion with Blnguyen (talk • contribs), removed the warnings. Your edits to the dates May 4, however have me ocnfused. Why delink the years? Thanks, --Hansnesse 06:22, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see it now, they are duplicated links... Thanks, I am having a slow day. Incidentally, using the edit summary is a good idea to prevent misunderstandings. You may want to consider registering as well, it is free and requires no personal information (and you can watch pages, more easily communicate, move pages, etc.). While anon's are certainly welcome to edit, their work gets more crefully scrutinized than registered users by the folks at recent changes patrol (an anti-vandalism group--where Blnguyen spotted your edits). In any event, keep up the great work. --Hansnesse 07:10, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Year zero
Hi. Regarding Year zero; you have changed the era in the section about the Zork game from BE to BCE. However the calendar in the game is not the same as our calendar: the years after zero are called GUE or AE and those before BE (Before Entharion) . DJ Clayworth 20:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ontario
Hi there. I notice you were involved in a mini-edit war over famous people from or residing in Ontario. Rather than simply changing the article back, it is better to discuss the reasons for the dispute on the article's talkpage. I wonder about some of the names on the list--I have heard about a Beverly Cleary connection, for example, but haven't found any proof of it. Sources to prove that these people really are from or live in Onta would be extremely helpful. Also, if you revert more than 3 times in one day, you can be blocked from editing, so please be careful. Read through WP:3RR to make sure you understand the rule. Thanks, --Rockero 23:15, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Edit summaries
Please add an Edit summary to each edit that you make so others know what you are doing better.--Jusjih 13:16, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FRC
The FRC dates are interesting in date articles, but they aren't "Holidays or Observances." There's another user working on FRC dates in date articles as well. Please consider coordinating with this other author. I think this information should go in a separate header (name?). I also think it would be helpful to start a discussion on the date article project page. Topics would be a discussion on suitability for inclusion, subheading name, and additional, compatible calendars to add in the future. Rklawton 15:00, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello,
I was wondering why you re-reverted this page without an Edit summary entry... Perhaps you are also not aware of this...?

[edit] Comedienne
You do know that comedienne is the female word for comedian, don't you? DakPowers (Talk) 23:41, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes. However, it is one of those terms that has fallen out of use. I've never actually heard it in conversation, whereas I hear 'actress' all the time. 69.138.229.246 23:51, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- I guess whether or not it has fallen out of use depends on where you are, what you read, etc. I've read/heard other British female comedians referred to as "comediennes", but I'm on no crusade about it. But please at least leave an edit summary when reverting; some folk take umbrage easily! Regards, David Kernow 03:53, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to Andrea Martin, are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks. Newton2 19:35, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
You have been temporarily blocked from editing for vandalism of Wikipedia. Please note that page blanking, addition of random text or spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, and repeated and blatant violation of WP:NPOV are considered vandalism. If you wish to make useful contributions, you may come back after the block expires. —Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 20:04, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Last edit
If people are going to misinterpret innocent edits as vandalism, even when I leave an edit summary, and forget to assume good faith, I don't think I'll be editing anymore. My first edit was six months ago, and this edit is going to be my last one. 69.138.229.246 20:28, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry to hear that. You should, however, understand, that making massive edits that are not readily accepted by the majority of other editors is quite disruptive to this encyclopedia. I realize your intent was good, but you really should have stopped and started a discussion when you encountered the first person to object to your edits, or, better yet, asked the community's advice before making controversial edits on a large scale in the first place. Correcting typos and formatting glitches wholesale is one thing, one to be praised and encouraged, but changes like comedienne→comedian do not fall into that category. It will be a pity if you leave holding a grudge against us without understanding that. If you reconsider, feel free to contact me with any questions/inquiries you may have. Wishing you the best in whatever endeavors you will pursue next,—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 20:54, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Some tips
Hi there! I am glad that your edit above did not become your last one. Just wanted to offer you a couple of friendly tips, formatting-wise. First, it is in general not recommended to make edits the sole purpose of which is to remove blank lines. Most of the times the visual effect is minimal, especially considering the disadvantags such edits create. As a matter of fact, such edits do more harm than good. The reason for that is when an article is edited (no matter how slightly), another copy of it is saved to the database. Correcting a typo improves the quality of the article, so this use of additional space is justifiable. Not so with white spaces and extra lines—basically an almost identical copy of the article is saved to the database, without creating much benefit. I'm not saying that extra blanks shouldn't be removed, but, if possible, try to incorporate them with other edits. If you only want to remove blank lines, it is better not to.
Second, you added a bunch of white spaces to the Seven-year cycles article. It is my understanding that you wanted the pictures to match the paragraphs to their left. This, however, is not a good solution, because even if you manage the pictures to align on your screen, there is no guarantee everyone else will see them as you do (people have different screen resolutions, different browsers, different font sizes, heck, some, like me, may not even have the browser window maximized at all times). Additionally, if someone edits any of the paragraphs in future, the alignment will break. Not to worry—there is an easy solution to achieve just the effect you need. If you insert {{-}} right before the image, it will automatically clear the margins, and both the following image and the text following that image will be aligned at the top. Try it, it's very easy and a lot better solution than manually inserting the lines.
Hope you find this helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. Also, have you considered creating an account for yourself here? The benefits are numerous, and you will find that the attitude of others towards your improves dramatically (due to a lot of vandalism from the IPs, anonymous accounts are often treated with suspicion). Take care!—Ëzhiki (ërinacëus amurënsis) • (yo?); 01:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Underscore removal
I notice that you have been persistently replacing undrscores (_) with spaces ( ) in many Wikipedia pages, including articles, WPs, and userpages like mine. Please stop doing this. You have no right to interfere with policy/WP pages, nor any right to alter people's personal userpages. Underscores and spaces are read differently in links like that, as you can see by the way you mucked up my birthday link. There is nothing wrong with underscores. It is a total waste of time removing them from pages. It can also very easily be considered vandalism. If you wish to make constructive edits to Wikipedia, please create an account. This allows you to have your own name, instead of a string of numbers, with your own userpage, talk page and a bit of respect too. Do not invade other people's space. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ 10:22, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- And don't delete this comment, like you did last time. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ 16:22, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] White spaces
Why exactly are you removing spaces from articles? Going from one space to no space reads the same way when not in editing mode, so there's no real need for it, or effect. J. Spencer 04:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh. I'll stop now. I didn't know that. 69.138.229.246 18:18, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's not a big deal; it just seemed kind of unusual. However, going from two to one (or zero) does change how it looks; it takes out one space. Two-space and three-space are read the same, and one space and zero space are read the same. Going with one or the other is kind of a matter of aesthetics, and I'm not going to argue aesthetics. I wasn't getting after you; I just wanted to know why you wanted to do it. J. Spencer 20:23, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your edits to many year articles, such as 1865
Please read Talk:1850 before you change the standard formats for the intro sentence. For example, the word "Year" was added to the beginning of the intro to avoid a number being the first word in a sentence. --tess 18:43, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Why would that be an issue? 69.138.229.246 04:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- It is not earth-shattering. I happen to have done a lot of reformatting for the 1800s, and hope it doesn't get undone without a reason. (Or maybe my skin will get thicker as time goes by.) But more importantly, one grammatical rule for writing numbers is that if its the first word in a sentence it should be spelled out. See The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation [2] rule #17. Since spelling the year out would be too cumbersome and hard to read, the word "year" was put ahead of the number. If you disagree with any of the guide-lines discussed in talk:1850, please bring it up there. You may be able to contribute better ideas than what is there now. Thanks. --tess 19:43, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
