Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my Talk page or you can type {{helpme}} on this talk page and a user will help you as soon as possible. I will answer your questions as far as I can. Again, welcome!

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.

[edit] Your edits at Nagle's algorithm

Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

I gather that you want the DZK article to be retained. The problem is that lots of people keep adding bad articles to Wikipedia for various reasons (eg., to advertise their company or their band), so we have to have a way to decide which articles should be deleted. That mysterious "WP:BAND" is a link to our guidelines for which articles about muscial bands to keep or delete. You probably will want to read it carefully, to see how to edit the DZK article to make it one that gets kept. (Hint: your last edit is not going to help.)

(By the way, Nagle's algorithm is an important part of TCP/IP, the main protocol of the world wide web. Yep, you just attacked one of the guy's who create the Internet.)

Wikipedia is an enormous project (over 1 million articles) and encyclopedias are inherently complicated. We try to make allowances for new editors. But we do get sick of vandals and spammers, so we aren't always as patient as we should be. You have made a really bad start with those personal attacks. If you keep editing without logging in, I suggest you be careful about working with others. On the other hand, if you create a username and log in to edit, that username will not be connected to your existing edits. (Also, the Wikipedia software has lots of useful features that only work if you're logged in.)

Cheers again, CWC(talk) 00:25, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your message! It was a joke more than an attack, and I'm sorry that you were the one to field it. I'm not especially fond of DZK, but he does have a loyal online following and is quite popular in the underground hip-hop scene. To call him unimportant or undeserving of mention in Wikipedia is one thing, but to say his entry merits deletion is silly.

Thanks for your time, apologies for any aggravation, and all-around best wishes,

Todd
