Thank you for removing Spam on Wikipedia, why can't logged in users realize what is spam and what isn't. ;)--Prince of Dharma 00:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

thanks for the feedback. The problem is that most wiki users don't necessarily realize that some of the links being spammed are "MFA" sites - Made For Adsense (Ads). Sites that were created strictly to push ads and carry no original content or very little. Its one thing to promote a fan site that's quality, its another thing for these guys to try to use wikipedia to cash in. So I'm always on the lookout for spammyness.

[edit] Dear 65.0.101.151

You have removed my Reggaeton now twice. Can you let me know why you have removed it? The added link is NOT spam. There is even NO sponsored link on my website, apart from some not related links I cannot change myself! Check yourself please: http://reggaeton.startpagina.nl.

I think my website really adds something to the topic. If someone is interested in more information, he or she can find this on my website. Maybe it is a good idea to add a special "link"-section to your article where SERIOUS Reggaeton links can be placed. Hope you can let me know what you think.

Best regards, Ries73 Administrator Reggaeton Startpage http://reggaeton.startpagina.nl

[edit] Dear 65.0.101.151

Let me start this off by saying that you are a very good user on wikipedia, and you have contributed a lot to a wide range of topics.

However, I am sorry to notice that you deleted many verifiable comments on the Pescozada article. If you would like me to give a citation (only if you speak Spanish), then you can go on their website, musica.com.sv, or www.elsalvadorrap.com. These websites will state that:

  • Omnionn is their official producer
  • They are the most well-known influential group from the Salvadoran hip hop scene.
  • They have released "Relaciones Diplomaticas" featuring fellow rapper, Joaquin Santos, and it is a disrespect record to Heavy Clan.
  • They have collaborated with someone on many of their songs in "El Teatro Plebeyo", which took five producers and four recording studios to make
  • They have recorded with "Poeta DeMente"

I will not revert your edits, but please take this into consideration, and decide whether or not you want to.BashmentBoy 14:38, 31 October 2006 (UTC)BashmentBoy

I do speak Spanish, but if there are items in the article which are verifiable via citation, then references should be added (in which case, the content should stay up). I'm familiar with the group, and other el Salvadorian rappers, but many of the comments that I received are noticeably POV ("many of their friends say", "some hip hop fans say", etc). If you can add a reference link that confirms how the album was recorded, that's fine. But most of the changes I made were people's opinions, it would be a plus if you could find references on sites that discuss the impact pescozada had (through album sales, influence of other artists from El Salvador, etc).

[edit] Your spam removal

I disagree with your removal of the website: wikibartender.org. It is not a MFA site. Wikipedia contributors have discovered our site and have expressed that it is fun for them to add to a site, that like wikipedia, is dedicated to a community that shares information. We have a kind and generous community of wikipedia users and contributors, I think it would be a shame to not let other wikipedia members not find this community. Please reconsider your removal.

I consider your site an MFA for several reasons. First, the site is only six weeks old, and you have made a point to add links to it from a large number pages on wikipedia, including some that already had drink recipes on the page itself. If it was a quality site that could stand alone, it wouldn't need links on wikipedia driving traffic to it. Second, you intentionally chose to include the word wiki in the title, and make it a .org as opposed to a .com. It seems kind of suspicious because it would give most people who see the link the impression that wikibartender is somehow formally associated with wikipedia, especially considering the layout is identical. I think its misleading if that's the case. And third, it would be one thing if you created the site as a hobby and after some time decided to place ads on it to generate a little side revenue. Instead, you launch the site complete with a block of ads on the right, and a set of carefully blended in text link ads across the bottom. I can spot the difference between amateur adsense users and people experienced with them, someone thought the adsense placement out on wikibartender well before the site even went up. These things being the case, I don't see how on earth anyone can interpret this site as being anything other than a classic MFA site, created for the sole purpose of generating advertising money. And we both know that if you weren't linking the site from wikipedia (since its too early for effective search engine placement), you wouldn't be generating any ad revenue whatsoever. I don't have a personal problem with MFA's, but I don't think people should be adding them to wiki pages when there are older sites or ones that are clearly not ad-driven to be used instead.
I'm curious why you aren't a registered user. Doesn't anyone else find this a bit odd? Anyway, I'm actually a casual contributer to one of the links (wikibartender) you removed. To my knowledge the site originated as a way to get HOW-To cocktail articles off wikipedia. In addition, I love how you quickly deleted the lines

from you profile. Prince of Dharma I presume? --Citracyde 22:44, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

First off, you don't need to be a registered user to make useful contributions or remove spam (and I do both). I've seen spammers and vandals with usernames, so picking a clever screen name doesn't make someone a better contributor. I'm accountable for my changes, if an admin disagrees with my edits, they are free to block me, username or not. You yourself have a username, and almost every single edit you have ever made on this site involves adding links to two different sites which are CLEARLY advertisement driven: wikibartender.org and wiki-recipe.org. Both sites are less than six weeks old, and you started adding the first of your 30+ links on wikipedia pages DAYS after the sites launched. So lets relax, we both know whats up. Second, as far as the 3RRV rule (which I removed from the page just now because its presence may affect my account), it was added by user Jack25 (a sock puppet of a link spammer) because I was removing links to his online store. User Cryptic apparently noticed what Jack25 (who, not surprisingly, was temporarily banned from wikipedia) was doing, and apparently reversed the bogus 3RRV warning (which if you look at my history, I never touched). If you want to contribute to those two hobby sites, great. But don't pretend that you aren't link spamming, not with all the facts I've pointed out.
