Thanks for clearing that up about The Dalles. I hope their copy editors are right. :) When you say "regional style", do you mean just in the newspaper industry or in general? Because as you can see, "Chicago" disagrees with you, and in Wikipedia the convention has been to sort any category containing The Dalles to "Dalles, The", and I like things to be consistent. That site is a great resource, BTW, and I'm going to add it to that article's talk page. You seem to know what you are doing on Wikipedia. Have you considered signing up for an account? Katr67, I put in a response for your own discussion page, but to put it briefly about The Dalles: indexing under the letter T is standard practice both for the media and layfolk in the Pacific Northwest, which is likely why the state newspaper association also follows that custom.
