The 5th World Scout Jamboree was the World Scout Jamboree where 81-year old Baden-Powell gave his farewell.

The Jamboree in Vogelenzang, Bloemendaal in the Netherlands was opened on 1937-07-31 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, with 28,750 Scouts from 54 countries attending. Given 650 water taps and 120 showers, it was considered the cleanest jamboree to date.

The camp consisted of 12 subcamps, each with its own badge colour, viz., subcamp 1: yellow, subcamp 2: green, subcamp 3: red, subcamp 4: light-blue, subcamp 5: dark-blue, subcamp 6: read/wite, subcamp 7: blue/white, subcamp 8: yellow/green, subcamp 9: orange, Woestduin subcamp: green/white, water camp: orange/white.^[1]

Although girls didn't participate in the jamboree (not until the 16th World Scout Jamboree in Australia, they were allowed to give a salute to Olave Baden-Powell, their Chief Guide. Also a special Cub Scout day was organized during the jamboree.

[edit] Closure and farewell

At the closure of the event on 1937-08-09, Baden-Powell pointed out the symbol of this jamboree: the Jacob Staff. With its ten arms, it symbolized the ten commandments of the Scout Law. And took his farewell.^[2]

I am nearing the end of my life. Most of you are at the beginning, and I want your lives to be happy and successful. You can make them so by doing your best to carry out the Scout Law all your days, whatever your station and wherever you are. Now goodbye. God bless you all. God bless you.
