5.11 Tactical Series Clothing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Little is known about the complete history of 511 Inc. as listed in Hoovers. It is a privately held company based in Modesto, CA. They are most famous for being the official pants supplier to the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.

5.11 started out supplying the FBI Academy with cargo pants which became a hit with FBI trainees then spread out to others in the law enforcement field. Unlike ordinary cargo pants, 5.11's are made of sturdy cotton canvas with a double row of stitching at stress points, large, specialty and hidden pockets for various gear. They are made for rigorous activities law enforcement personnel and civilians might encounter.

[edit] Mission Statement and Product Summary

"At 5.11 Tactical Series, we create products that exceed the needs of our customers with functional innovation while delivering exceptional value." Many of their products have handy built-in features most people wouldn't expect like large hidden pockets that can carry just about anything you can imagine from maps, guns, flashlights, cell phones, or food without anyone ever knowing it.

[edit] Market and Product Strategy Change

Around 2004, 5.11 began changing its marketing and product strategy by heavily targeting law enforcement personnel. They began expanding their product line to include regulation uniforms by blending their unique 5.11 style with the look and feel of traditional uniforms. Also included in this plan are a new line of accessories including watches, gear bags, luggage, hats, boots, and socks. By further expanding their product lines, 5.11 hopes to compete with other uniform manufacturers by becoming a one-stop-shop for law enforcement (or civilian) personnel to purchase their gear.

Though most of 5.11's products are geared towards law enforcement, the 5.11 line of clothing is starting to find its way towards outdoor enthusiasts such as hikers, hunters, and fishermen.
