4th Guard Infantry Division (Germany)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 4th Guard Infantry Division (German: 4. Garde-Infanterie-Division) was a unit in the Imperial German Army during the First World War. Organized in May 1915, the division consisted primarily of one battalion, 5th Guard Infantry Brigade, the 1st and 3rd Squadrons, Guard Reserve Light Cavalry Regiment, and the 2nd Guard Field Artillery Regiment. The division saw action on both the Eastern and Western Front and participated in many of the significant battles of the war. Considered among the best of the German divisions, the unit specialized in stormtrooper tactics and counter-attacking, and was often called upon to blunt enemy assaults and stabilize the lines.
