4 (New York City Subway service)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 4 Lexington Avenue Express is a service of the New York City Subway. It is colored green on station signs, the New York City Subway map and on most IRT rolling stock equipment since it uses the IRT Lexington Avenue Line through Manhattan.
The 4 operates between Woodlawn-Jerome Avenue, Bronx and Crown Heights–Utica Avenue, Brooklyn at all times. The normal service pattern for the 4 is express in Manhattan and Brooklyn and local in the Bronx. Late nights, the 4 runs local in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Brooklyn; in Brooklyn, the 4 is extended south to New Lots Avenue. During rush hours, in the peak direction (to Manhattan in the AM, from Manhattan in the PM), the 4 skips 138th Street-Grand Concourse.
The 4 is the official train of the New York Yankees since it serves Yankee Stadium at 161st Street–Yankee Stadium station. Several R62 and R142 cars running on this line were decorated with the team's logos and colors during the World Series. The outer wall of the stadium has a large gap where passengers and stadium fans can see each other as the train passes.
The 4's rolling stock fleet consists of R142s, R142As and R142Ss train sets. Several R62 and R62A sets are also part of the fleet.
