Image of a halo around the sun from the NOAA Photo Library, part of the National Weather Service Weather Wonders collection.

Taken by Lieutenant JG Cindy McFee, NOAA Corps, 21 December 1980, looking north near the South Pole. Image ID is wea00196.

The structures visible in the background are part of the South Pole Station.
