34th World Science Fiction Convention
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
34th World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) was MidAmeriCon, which was held in Kansas City, USA, 2–6 September 1976, at the Radisson Muehlebach Hotel and nearby Phillips House. The Convention committee was chaired by Ken Keller. There were 4200 registered members of the convention, of which 3014 attended.
The professional Guest of Honor at the 34th Worldcon was Robert A. Heinlein, who was so much in demand that he did not have much time to prepare a speech, but he gave a well received one nonetheless. He was previously the Guest of Honor at the 3rd Worldcon (1941) and the 19th Worldcon (1961). George Barr was the fan Guest of Honor. Wilson Tucker was the Toastmaster.
The convention also produced a fine, hard-cover programme book, now collectible, that is considered to be one of the best in the history of Worldcon, only two others having subsequently done so (in 1987 and 2005).
