3-2-1 Penguins!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3-2-1 Penguins! is a series of Christian animated videos and DVDs for all ages. The series was produced by Big Idea Productions, the makers of VeggieTales, and its stories feature practical life lessons inspired by the Bible, generally applying a verse from the book of Proverbs to a realistic situation children might face.

The stories center on the exploits of twin children, Jason and Michelle, who are staying with their eccentric British grandmother for the summer. At their grandmother's cottage, they discover a toy spaceship and four penguin figurines. The penguins (named Zidgel, Midgel, Fidgel and Kevin) apparently take the twins on trips around the universe, (though they could be only daydreaming), "inadvertently" teaching them valuable life-lessons along the way.

Cash-flow issues in 2003, during production of Big Idea's Jonah movie prevented continuation of this and the "Cartoon Adventures of Larryboy!" series.

The series is currently airing in the qubo children's television block on NBC, Telemundo, and ION.

In March 2007, Entertainment Rights the owner of Big Idea announced that they have begun production on 20 x 30 minute new episodes of the popular animated comedy series. The new episodes are scheduled to air on qubo in Q3 2007

[edit] Trivia

  • The series followed a pattern of an adventure with Jason and then Michelle. This pattern broke after episode five when the penguins needed Jason's help again in episode six.
  • Larry the Cucumber is mentioned and spoofed in this series. In the first episode, he is made to look like a vacuum cleaner, and in the closing song of episode four, Kevin asks if the surfer who is Zidgel is Larry the Cucumber.
  • The Ventril-O-Matic and Rusty are in this series as well as in the Veggietales episode "Larry's Wonderful World of Auto-Tainment"
  • Bob the Tomato can be seen looking through the window of the space club when the Penguins are performing.
  • Grandmum's face is only shown in "Moon Menace on Planet Tell-A-Lie!"
  • When Midgel prepares to start the ship, he trims a plant. In (almost) every episode, Midgel has a new plant which makes a direct reference to the previous episode.
  • The ship has new landing gear in (almost) every episode following episode one.
    • Running Feet (The Cheating Scales of Bullamanka!)
    • Wheels (The Amazing Carnival of Complaining)
    • Anchor (Runaway Pride at Lightstation Kilowatt!)
    • Dart-Point (Moon Menace on Planet Tell-a-Lie!)
