"La Chambre D'Echo" - Where the dead Birds sing is the title of Darkwave band Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows' ninth album. It was released in 2004. "La Chambre D'Echo" - Where the dead Birds sing saw a very prevalent use of synthesizers, harking not only back to her first album, "...Ich töte mich jedesmal aufs Neue, doch ich bin unsterblich, und ich erstehe wieder auf; in einer Vision des Untergangs...", but also to more modern music ("Imhotep" being the most fast-forward-sounding, reminiscent of a car commercial.) It is also the first album to be produced by anyone other than Anna-Varney, with former Dead Can Dance producer John A. Rivers taking a co-production role (Rivers is also responsible for remastering every one of the albums that were re-released in 2004.)
The packaging for "La Chambre D'Echo" is extensive: the standard edition comes inside a 128-page, A4-sized book of lyrics and photography by Joachim Luetke from inside and around Der Narrenturm, an old hospital and psychiatric ward that has become a museum of diseases, mutations and abnormalities of the human body. "La Chambre D'Echo" also comes in a boxed edition of 3000 signed and numbered copies, containing the above, bookmarks, postcards, a translations book and a pamphlet for Der Narrenturm. Oddly enough, the vinyl edition (limited to 666 copies) features an image from the previous album "Es reiten die Toten so schnell" (or: the Vampyre sucking at his own Vein) on its cover. The vinyl edition features its own abridged version of the book as well as a poster.
