2nd Reconnaissance Battalion (2nd Recon Bn) is an infantry battalion in the United States Marine Corps. Located in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina the battalion falls under the 2nd Marine Division and the II Marine Expeditionary Force.

[edit] Mission

2D Recon battalion is a battalion of men trained/specializing in reconnaissance and surveillance. The men of this battalion are also trained in CQB tactics and other special missions. Recon Marines (as men in Recon are called) are sent to various schools to learn various special skills including but not limited to: Scout Sniper school, Jump school, Military Free Fall school, Combatant Dive school, Ranger school, various civilian run schools (i.e. McMillian sniper school), and other DOD and SOCOM sponsored schools.


The mission of Recon is to provide the Fleet Marine Force with a Reconnaissance and surveillance capability. Recon is in a support role, supporting the various infantry battalions. Recon can also be tasked to complete various "special missions" as needed by the MEF or MEU commander depending on who they are supporting.
