2N3055

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2N3055 is a NPN transistor used for general purpose amplifying applications. Designed for high current and medium power. Although it is an amplifier it can also be used for general purpose switching.

Packaged in a TO3 can, it is a 15 amp, 60 volt, 115 watt transistor with a Beta of about 20 to 70. Its main use in industry is for linear power supplies intended for low voltage high current applications.

Another use is to drive the primary coils of TV line output transformers, to allow low cost high voltage generators to be built.

The 2N3054 is a lower-power transistor with the same basic parameters. An MJ2955 is a complementary (PNP) transistor for the 2N3055.
