Sagavoll folkehøgskole, Sagavoll Folk High School, is a christian folk high school in Norway. It is situated in Gvarv, a small town in the municipality of Sauherad in the county of Telemark. The school was originally founded in 1893 in Notodden by Asbjørn Knutsen, but later moved to its current location in Gvarv.

It is an independent foundation, and is run by a board consisting of representatives from KRIK, Normisjon and KFUK-KFUM (the Norwegian YMCA/YWCA).

Sagavoll offers one-year courses in 9 different classes. These are:

In addition to these subjects, students can also choose from around 100 different modules, which are subjects the students can choose from outside what would be their typical class-related subjects. Sagavoll focuses on variation in subjects. Therefor, tuesday and wednesday are dedicated to the subjects in each class. Each student can then choose from the different modules to fill monday, thursday and friday. With this lay out, each student can freely choose the focus of the education. If a student wants a purely outdoors type of education, then he or she can choose to have nothing but outdoors classes. The school year is devided into 4 module periods. So that twice each semester the students choose new modules to fill their weeks.

The schools has a christian ideology, and several of the modules are on subjects relating to christianity. To fulfill the schools goals, each student must have 3 different modules on christianity, and 2 modules on social subjects through the year.

Sagavoll is located just east of the river outside Gvarv, and is banked slightly higher then the road running past. The campus area is covered in grass with silver birch and pine trees, with the exception of the carpark outside the main building.

School campus is fairly large, housing all of the schools buildings and most of the staffs private homes. The sentral point is the main building, with the boarding houses located north (Bjørkheim, Furuheim, Granheim), east (Tunheim) and west (Sagaheim) of it. Campus also incompasses a sandvolleyball court, a football field, an outdoor campfire spot and large grassy areas for recreational activities.

[edit] Boarding

The school has boarding for 120 students. They live in the various houses on campus where they have either one-person or two-person bedrooms. The houses are two-story buildings (with the exception of Tunheim having only one), each floor housing either only males or only females. Occupants of a floor share a livingroom, showers and lavatory facilities.

Other than the student boarding houses, there are two main school buildings. These are the main building and the house of crafts.

[edit] Main building

The main building is bulk of the school. It is "L" shaped and can be devided into the north wing, west wing and the gym. The north wing is where the main entrance leads to. Here are also the classroms, staff offices, meating rooms, the auditaurium, library, music studio, dance studio and piano rooms. The west wing is where the dining hall, kitchens and communal living room is located, with the bouldering room (a room made for indoor bouldering) and sermom room in the basement. The gym is a standard sized singel court gym with a raised stage. Under the gym there are changing rooms with saunas, a padded room for band practice and equipment storage for the outdoors classes. Large doors can be opened between the communal livingroom and the gym, making room for more seats during happenings on the stage. This is where most receptions, conserts and general entertainment is held.

[edit] The house of crafts

This is the building located nearest the gate. The first floor houses the classroom for woodcraft, jewel making and pottery. The second floor is the main classroom for the Textile, Clothes and Interior design class, with their looms and storage for textiles.

The school has a staff of 24, not including kitchen staff. Of these, five are administration, 12 teachers, 5 assistant teachers, a librarian and a janitor
