After many gigs as part of the Liverpool music scene, and appearances on compilation albums such as the Inner City Sumo album, the band have toured the UK and built up an extensive and loyal fanbase. Radio DJs such as Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens on BBC Radio One and Tom ‘2468 Motorway’ Robinson and Phill Jupitus on BBC Radio 6 have given the band significant air play.

The Innner City Sumo album gathered reviews from the likes of Record Collector, NME, Q magazine).

28 Costumes’ appearances at In The City and Popkomm have led to national television programmes featuring their music in both the UK and Germany (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg), and the band returned to Germany in 2005 as part of their European tour. The band also featured on Japan's Fuji TV.

Following the success of the limited release singles ‘Hurricane’ and ’21 Years’, the Cossies released their debut album The Fake Death Experience on Spank Records in November 2004. The album became a favourite with reviewers, and has been featured in magazines from NME to Record Collector to Artrocker and national newspapers from The Independent to The Daily Star.
