[edit] Paedophiles
Please stop removing the paedophile category from articles about convicted paedophiles. Where a court of law has found someone guilty of an offence, that is evidence enough that they committed the crime. It would be inappropriate to add that category to someone who hasn't been convicted or confessed or admitted to paedophile crimes, but it's quite reasonable to add it for those that have been convicted, confessed or who have admitted to paedophile crimes, jguk 3 July 2005 16:31 (UTC)
- What is a "convicted paedophile"? Pedophilia is not a crime and you can therefore not be convicted for it. Read my userpage, please.
- It is your opinion -- your POV -- that these are "paedophile crimes". If a male heterosexual rapes a woman, is that a heterosexual crime? No, it's a sex crime. There is many other reasons and motives for which molestation is committed -- for example, to get back at someone, or to shock the world since it is considered a horrific crime. Unless you can provide a psychological report which concluded the offender was a pedophile, we're simply spreading unverified information. 24.224.153.40 3 July 2005 18:41 (UTC)

[edit] The paedophiles category
You are anon as you do not have a logged in account - I recommend you get a logged in account - or at least give a name you are to be known by - until then you are anonymous. On the personal attacks front, calling someone an "idiot" and implying they are incapable of reading do constitute personal attacks. On WP, personal attacks are seriously frowned upon (ask any regular user and they'll tell you this). WPians disagree frequently, but try not to resort to attacks. It is clear that you do not like Category:Pedophiles. The way to deal with it is to list the page on Wikipedia:Categories for deletion, together with your rationale, and let the community decide whether it should go. You shouldn't go depopulating the category. For now I will restore them all - pending any decision that may be taken on Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. Please do not revert them, the categories for deletion page will only take 10 days, jguk 3 July 2005 19:39 (UTC)
- I don't want the category deleted, I want people who are not verifiably pedophiles removed from it. What should I do about that? 24.224.153.40 3 July 2005 19:44 (UTC)
I, along with most people, will take a criminal conviction for sex crimes against young children to be evidence enough that someone is a paedophile. You seem to be suggesting that we'd need more - namely a thorough psychological investigation. Any such investigations, even if they were ever made on an individual, are unlikely ever to come into the public domain (being protected by doctor-patient confidentiality). As far as I can see, the by-product of your argument is that the paedophiles category will end up being very, very small - and practically devoid of worth to readers (particularly bearing in mind that our readership is the worldwide general public, not professional criminological psychologists). I'd therefore strongly recommend making your argument on the categories for deletion page. By all means leave a note on the talk pages of all articles with that category (if you so wish) to allow for a full discussion.
Wikipedia works by consensus. People will either be swayed by your argument or not. The vote will take 10 days, and everyone will be expected to abide by the result (although after some time, say a number of months, it could be listed again - although if it survives, I'd recommend that you wait till someone else lists it again, rather than re-listing it yourself). In the meantime, the pages with that categorisation should remain showing the "pedophiles" category. Kind regards, jguk 3 July 2005 19:56 (UTC)
- See groupthink. 90% of everyone on the planet thinks that pedophiles are sick and wrong. If I list the category, people won't even bother hearing my argument; they'll all just immediantly jump to the conclusion that it doesn't matter because pedophiles are disgusting and they're all child molesters. So of course they won't be swayed. I've tried to argue about pedophiles with close-minded people before, and nothing gets accomplished: you have to keep telling them that pedophile isn't a synonym for child molester. They never get it through their skull.
- Everywhere is like that. Wikipedia is not a gathering of openminded intellectuals of anykind; it's anyone who can use the Internet, it's mothers and fathers who fear that a pedophile is going to "prey" on their child. And why would anyone care if a child molester is really a pedophile? It's alright to just stick a label on something like a newspaper without giving it any thought. He molested little kids, right? So who cares?
- I will list it, but it's not going to do anything in my favour, and you know it. Oh well. Sorry for the rude comments...
- Maybe a category like "Child molesters suspected to be pedophiles" would be better, but that name is POV itself. I just don't think we should label something as a fact unless we know it's a fact. 24.224.153.40 3 July 2005 20:07 (UTC)
[edit] IRC
Are you on IRC? If so, perhaps you could go there and page me. Alternatively I'm on MSN messenger with the ID thagudearbh@yahoo.co.uk. If you can chat to me on either of these, please do, as it will probably resolve the issue quicker. I can see you have a genuine concern, and I hope you can see why I genuinely believe the categorisation should remain on those pages (even though you disagree with me). I'm sure we'd come up with a good way of resolving the issue. As I say, come the end of the day, the issue will be decided by the majority of WPians (not you and I) - it's just a case of where we go to get their views. Kind regards, jguk 3 July 2005 20:01 (UTC)
- Maybe. 24.224.153.40 3 July 2005 20:07 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for listing it at WP:CFD. I think that's a good way of dealing with it (and as noted above, please leave the category intact until we have a decision). On another point, if you do want to become a regular contributor to Wikipedia, I really do recommend getting an account and editing when logged in. It can be User:24ip if you so wish. You'll find it will automatically give you greater status, as it were, than as a plain IP address (whether right or wrong, anons tend to get squashed easier than regular users!). All the best, jguk 3 July 2005 20:41 (UTC)
- I can't login. It logs me out as soon as I try to edit User:24ip. 24.224.153.40 3 July 2005 21:08 (UTC)

[edit] Answer regarding block
Hi...good question. The reason the 3RR doesn't show in the edit history is because the edits in question were deleted nonsense articles that were being posted and reposted. Those kinds of edits won't show in the IP's edit history. Hope this clarifies things for you. Best, Lucky 6.9 01:42, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, alright. Thanks. 24.224.153.40 03:30, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

- Why wouldn't I keep saying "Deny Aleshia."?
- Perhaps it is only yourself who is saying Deny Aleshia. How can you be sure you're not dreaming? Maybe you are just a character in a greater being's dream.. Deny Aleshia. 24.224.153.40 01:57, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Talk pages of unregisterred users
The talk page of your username belongs to you. But IP talk pages do not belong to anyone except the Wikipedia community. Please do not delete material, exspecially warnings from other users, from the page. -Willmcw 04:24, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I've been the only one using this IP for a few months, and the messages applied to edits I made, so it's only sensible that I should be able to choose what to do with them, just as you can with yours. 24.224.153.40 19:32, 29 November 2005 (UTC) (User:24ip)

- Nonetheless, do not remove warnings from this IP addresses page. If you would like to have a user page of your own, register to get one. (As I believe you already have). This page belongs to the community. -Willmcw 22:55, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I don't have any warnings. I have some guy accusing me of moving the pedophilia page, which is ridiculous, and another comment which mistook vandal reverts for vandalism. I'm already registered, I just don't feel like logging in. 24.224.153.40 23:02, 29 November 2005 (UTC) (User:24ip)

- If you don't log in then don't complain that you don't have a user page. I see several warning on this user talk page's archive. Maybe they weren't intended for you but for some other person using this IP address. In any case, whoever they were meant for, please don't delete material from this page. Thanks, -Willmcw 23:30, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not complaining that I don't have a userpage, you are reverting edits to an IP with comments directed towards me, thus any logical person should be able to deduce that I have just as much right to delete them than if they were on my user talk page kthxbai. 24.224.153.40 19:28, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Pedophilia
Ah, yes, I did add that tag. I saw a few things in there that you seem to already have fixed.
Truthfully, I have never read through the entire article. The very notion of pedophilia is disturbing to me, and a few paragraphs into the article I was disturbed to find myself physically ill. I do not want anything to do with that article... Alex Schenck (that's Linuxbeak to you) 02:59, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, alright. Thanks for replying. Perhaps it would be best to leave the tag there until our hits from Perverted Justice wane. 24.224.153.40 03:36, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] (welcome)
Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Wikipedia Boot Camp, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

[edit] Shared IP
Among whom is this IP shared? Are there any edits that have been made by a different person than user:24ip? -Willmcw 22:42, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
- The computer to which 24.224.153.40 is assigned is on an Eastlink installation which several people have access to. Another I am aware of made edits to Wikipedia using this and one other IP prior to me. They no longer live here, so they will not be using this IP again.
- All edits or actions can be assumed to be made by user:24ip (me) now. I do not plan on introducing anyone else here to Wikipedia as the contribution history for this IP could be, um, unsettling.
- Regardless someone else might use it occasionally, since Wikipedia recieves high Google rankings. Caution does not need to taken when blocking this IP, though, since I'm its primary user.
- So, yes, some very old edits were not made by me, but you know who to blame for the current ones. 24.224.153.40 22:52, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
- Please either remove the "shared" notice or place a note saying that you are user:24ip. The notice makes it appear that you are multiple editors and are due special treatment. You already have talk and user pages at user:24ip. -Willmcw 23:42, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
