[edit] ISEN
Hello 24.166.27.241. Recently I noticed your addition of the ISEN to the ISBN article. A quick Google search suggested to me that the ISEN is so far just a patent and not even a standards proposal, and that there are no publicly-visible items on the web that carry an ISEN. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The usual Wikipedia standards for notability (WP:N) require:
- In order to have a verifiable article, a topic must be notable enough that it will be described by multiple independent sources.
- Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate directory of businesses, websites, persons etc.
Looking at WP:SPAM, we also find this item:
- 4: Don't make a new article for your own product or Web site. Most often, when a person creates a new article describing his or her own work, it's because the work is not yet well-known enough to have attracted anyone else's attention, much less verifiable sources. Articles of this sort are known as vanity pages and are usually deleted. Wikipedia does indeed have articles about popular products and Web sites, but it is not acceptable to use Wikipedia to popularize them.
It's possible that the work on ISEN will be useful, and will end up having an impact, but it does not seem to me that it meets Wikipedia's standards yet. Please reply if you disagree. EdJohnston 21:31, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
