[edit] low power version?
Inside a train car on the Chūō local line I saw an interesting sign, but didn't have time to fully translate it. It basically said that the current car (a 209 series, I'm pretty sure) was eco-friendly, and used just 47% of the power required by the 103 series cars it had replaced. The sign made it seem like it was a recent innovation, but, this article aays that the 209s have been around for awhile. It also seems odd that they would be promoting an energy savings which was 13 years old; but stranger things have happened... Does anyone know anything about this? If I get a chance to ride that line again, I'll see if I can snap a picture to supplement by bad memory. Neier 00:13, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Bad memory indeed. It was most definitely not a 209; but an E231 I saw the sign in. Unfortunately, I didn't see the sign today... Neier 09:21, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
