[edit] Craig Crossman

If you are indeed from Computer America, welcome to Wikipedia! We enjoy your presence here. Here's a quick tutorial on how to use Wikipedia:

  • To make text italic, surround the text in two single quotes, like so: ''Italic Text'' becomes Italic Text.
  • To make text bold, surround the text in three single quotes, like so: '''Bold Text''' becomes Bold Text.
  • To make a link to a Wikipedia article, surround the text in double brackets, like so: [[Craig Crossman]] becomes Craig Crossman.
  • To make a link to an outside link, do the following: [http://computeramerica.com Computer America Website] becomes Computer America Website.
  • To make a bulleted list, put a star (*) before every bullet point.

Thanks for editing Wikipedia, and feel free to make your mark- just click edit this page :) Ral315 03:16, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] KMTR Links

Hello, I've removed your links to KMTR from Eugene, Oregon and Springfield, Oregon. I noticed you seem to be editing from an IP address belonging to ClearChannel communications, the station's parent company. As such, it was my judgement that these were added as commercial advertising-style links, something inappropriate for Wikipedia. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 20:17, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] KTVX

To not be considered a destructive anti-contributor, you should make your case in the discussion section of KTVX-TV before continuing to blank anything you see as controversial appearing there. Especially if you really are associated with Clear Channel communications, as it appears, you should consider whether such a censoring of high-profile actions by KTVX in the community could be considered constructive in any way, even if you are paid to represent them. This sort of action is what many feel has given Clear Channel Communications the reputation in the first place they are trying to shed, and what earned KTVX their nationwide recognition for censoring the message of the anti-war movement. Mezle 19:58, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

This ip address continues clear vandalism against the KTVX article, look at recent examples. Mezle 18:07, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WPOC

Hi and welcome. I wanted to let you know why I undid your edit to WPOC. For one thing, I wasn't sure the people mentioned met notability criteria. Also, according to WP:NOT#CBALL, we shouldn't make predictions such as "most likely will be nominated..." thirdly, all edits must conform to a neutral point of view, which I felt "amazing talent" did not. Feel free to change the wording to meet these criteria and add the material back in. Let me know on my talk page if you have any questions or want to discuss anything. Thanks for contributing! [edit] Road Runner

First, it would help if you registered; that way you would not have the taint of the disciplinary actions we see on this page.

I understand your frustration. This happens sometimes when knowledgeable and enthusiastic contributors don't always read through the many and varied Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You say, "I feel it's relevant in this article because people reading that section are going to want to know why Blanc's account is not considered reliable." But I certainly didn't remove anything that addressed that point in a factual way, which is that "Blanc's account had long been questioned by animation buffs...." That's all that need be said to present the unvarnished fact; anything else is arguing a viewpoint, which falls afoul of the policy of neutral point of view. It's also original research, which Wikipedia disallows.

All the things you explained about the provenance of the Barrier material is great and much-needed -- and I'm going to add this good additional material to the footnotes. The reference to Funnyworld is extraneous unless we're quoting a printed passage from a particular cited issue of Funnyworld; otherwise, the citation is the DVD. (I do have various WB DVD sets, BTW.) Your citation implies that this commentary appears on every release in the line. I'm not sure that's correct; in any event, we really need to cite the specific DVD on which this explanation appears. I'm really not asking for anything onerous; it's the same citation you'd put on a research paper or thesis. And technically, that's what Wikipedia requires.

On every editing page, Wikipedia say "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable. That's all that I, as a fellow editor and a peer, am asking for. Thanks for understanding. --Tenebrae 01:01, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

And I appreciate your writing to me, as well. Thanks.
Here's the passage I was concerned about:
Additionally, Blanc was known for "remembering" fanciful stories about the origins of his voices, such as claiming to have modeled the stutter of Porky Pig on the noises made by real pigs he observed on a farm. (He had actually taken over the role from a real-life stutterer, Joe Dougherty.)
You note on my talk page that
"[T]his is not original research when I already posted a citation that both shows what Blanc said and showed what the real history of the character was."
I'm not sure why you say this was cited, since the only citation in that paragraph is Blanc's autobiography. But the more important thing is: Wikipedia guidelines strongly recommend against passive-voice phrasing such as "was known for 'remembering' fanciful stories" since it makes an unattributed claim. Also, placing "remembering" within quote marks makes an implication, which is unencyclopedic: We can't imply but need to state facts.
Let me give an example of a more encyclopedic way to put it: "Additionally, animation historian John Doe, in Title of book or article wrote that Blanc often misremembered details in interviews," or "...wrote that Blanc was ordered to repeat the company line created by the publicity department," or whatever the documented circumstances are.
On a personal note, I'd consider it a favor if you would ssume good faith and also see the entirety of my talk-page postings and my user page, which list many more compliments and peer-awards for my editing than complaints. There will always be complaints — some of them, yes, justified, but also some of them not — and it's important to keep a full perspective on your editing colleagues. I hope this helps — and hey, at least tell me what you think of my finding that Ethelbert panel!   :-)   --Tenebrae 17:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I agree with you! That's why I conceded in black-and-white that some complaints are justified.
We're all imperfect editors, volunteers doing this for no credit or money, just because we believe in the democratization of information, doing our best to abide in good faith by the guidelines. I guess the most important thing, as you sort of say: assuming good faith.
And I do thank you -- seriously, not kidding or being sarcastic -- for the reminder. Maybe when one has been doing this a long time, one assumes everyone knows the guidelines and precedents and such. I put in edit summaries with links to policies, and I think it wouldn't hurt to write things like the above on articles' talk pages. That takes time, but then, so does this. Thank you again.
And y'know ... if you register, you can put up images! We need good and reasonable people like you in the community. Good Wiki'ing to ya! -- Tenebrae 20:03, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
