[edit] Mike Wilks

Thanks for your suggestion for the proper naming of the page on the NBA player Mike Wilks. I'm not an expert on Basketball, so I don't want to take it upon myself to move his page twice in one day, but if you feel strongly about your suggested change, feel free to move the page.

Remember to always sign all of your posts on talk pages. Typing four tildes after your comment ( ~~~~ ) will insert a signature showing your username and a date/time stamp, which is very helpful.

Go well. --Slashme 14:41, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] College basketball players

Hi there. I think you might be unaware of an article that may help with college basketball players. The Basketball players from small colleges article is used to assign players whose colleges are not yet stocked with enough players to warrant a subcategory in category:College basketball players. We use a similar format in Category:College football players, called Football players from small colleges. This allows us to avoid putting individuals in the large players categories, and so everybody who's working on these articles has been contributing to them. That's why players like Ira Bowman are generally deleted from the main categories, because they're already in the Basketball players from small colleges article. As you can see in that article, there are hundreds of players there, and not all of them will ever get categories. This gives them a home without cluttering the main category. Write me back if you have any questions.--Mike Selinker 07:49, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting mentions of CHN rankings

How are these unencyclopedic? Are the AFI top 100 rankings also unencyclopedic? How about the Rolling Stone lists? This seems like rampant, entirely unjustified deletionism to me. Microtonal 23:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

It is someone's opinion. What makes anything that anyone on the staff of collegehoops.net states worthy of inclusion on an encyclopedia? May I gather a group of friends to rank our own "Top 100 Point Guard" list and then stick it up here? An encyclopedia is for facts only. 203.214.2.144 04:42, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't accept your premise. Take a quick look at any paper encyclopedia, and you'll find all sorts of things that are "someone's opinion." The simple fact that a given statement is "someone's opinion" doesn't make that statement unencyclopedic, and if it did, we'd have to delete half the stuff on Wikipedia and start burning paper encyclopedias in the streets.
The thing that makes anything that anyone on the staff of CHN worthy of inclusion on an encyclopedia is the same thing that makes anything that anyone on the staff of the American Film Institute or Rolling Stone states worthy of inclusion on an encyclopedia. Those are someone's opinion, too, but you'd be hard-pressed to convince anyone that the AFI Top 100 is unencyclopedic. The CHN list is certainly no less authoritative than the AFI list, given your "it's just someone's opinion" standard. And of course, the difference between CHN's list and your list is that CHN is a source of sports journalism with enough of a reputation in the field of sports journalism to come up with an authoritative list of the top 100 point guards. You aren't. Microtonal 09:49, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
I just visited your lovely, information-packed userpage! Aaaand... surprise, you're an inclusionist! Whereas I, as you stated earlier, am a DELETIONIST!! That makes us mortal enemies, like Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty, or Superman and Lex Luthor. Well, Microtonal, you have proved to be a worthy adversary this time, but rest assured, I shall be back next time to defeat you with reinforced deletionistic powers! I vow to crush you and your inclusionism, no matter how many times you can say "AFI"! MUAHAHAHA! No, but seriously, if you really wish to revert my reversions (if that's a word), I'm not stopping you.
Personally, I really couldn't care less if the CHN rankings are mentioned or not, but your stated reason for deleting them is completely invalid. And it looks like you know that just as well as I do. Microtonal 00:37, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
That'll be your little secret.
Hm. An anonymous user whose ego won't allow them to concede a lost argument. How original. Nope, I've sure never seen that before. Microtonal 06:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Lowest form of wit.
Accurately describing reality isn't a form of wit. Unfortunately for you, neither is narcissistic childishness. Microtonal 17:45, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Go on, step up and be the mature one. This is your moment.

[edit] I remember you!

Whenever I create a basketball player article, you always find it and edit it. I thought I told you to get an account. I removed the Clippers and Pacers categories because he did not actually play for either of those teams, and he already has quite a few categories for such a short article. You could be helpful and expand it, lol. — Apr. 2, '06 [19:00] <freakofnurxture|talk>

[edit] Subst:ing and signing

Hi,

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Also, please don't forget to sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~).

Thanks, and happy editing!
