2013 World Baseball Classic

The 2013 World Baseball Classic, or WBC, will be an international baseball competition. It will be the third installment of a series that began with the inaugural 2006 World Baseball Classic, and the first to be held after a planned four-year break (following the 2009 World Baseball Classic).

The 2006 event consisted of sixteen national teams initially divided into four "pools", followed by a second round with two four-team pools, a semi-final, and a final. As of 2006, the format, locations, and nations represented in the 2009 and 2013 events have not been announced.

As of 2006, plans call for the World Baseball Classic to be repeated in 2009 and every four years thereafter. The 2013 event will be the first event to take place on the quadrennial cycle, similar to the Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup and the ICC Cricket World Cup.
