[edit] Mariah Carey singles and albums
Why have you removed R&B from the genre field in the infoboxes on the articles for Mariah Carey records? She is an R&B musician. Extraordinary Machine 17:36, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

- from the Dangerously In Love 2 page history: "Dangerously In Love 2" is a 2004 single from Beyoncé's first solo album, Dangerously In Love. In the U.S. the ballad went for airplay only, it was never released in other countries.
- The original version of the song can also be found on Destiny's Child's third studio album Survivor. It features a modified arrangement and background vocals by band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 15:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

- Plenty of singles are released without music videos - Promotional single says A promo single is a single that is released to club or radio outlets for the purpose of promotion of a song. It is not meant to be resold, but they are often sought out by collectors anyway. A promo single is usually sent to a radio station for it to play the radio version (which is often a radio edit, but can also be the original album version, or even a radio remix) of an artist's latest single. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 15:43, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

- Dangerously In Love 2 has already been declared as not notable enough to have its own page.. which is why it's listed in the singles chronology but not linked. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 21:43, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] J. Lo (album)
Thank you for your contributions to J. Lo (album). Some edits have been made to the article in order to bring it in harmony with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines shown there. All edits that don't comply with these guidelines are changed to match what our MoS recommends. Extraordinary Machine 18:08, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- You may not realise it, but Wikipedia has its own house style defined in Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Please be careful to follow its advice. All edits that don't will be changed to match what our MoS recommends. Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions: in titles of songs or albums, unless it is unique, the standard rule in the English language is to capitalize words that are the first word in the title and those that are not conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, for), prepositions (to, over, through) or articles (an, a, the). Also, you may have already realised this, but song titles should be in double quotation marks and not italics. Extraordinary Machine 14:19, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Also, the words "duet", "featuring" and "with" should not be capitalised. Extraordinary Machine 14:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Single infoboxes
Please stop replacing the single infobox templates with raw syntax; the template is part of WikiProject Songs, which all song articles fall under. If you're not sure how to format the template, please leave me a note on my talk page. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 21:39, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply. No, the template being used on those articles is for singles; there is a separate template for albums at Template:Album infobox. There are many advantages for using templates:
- To reduce article size.
- To increase the ease of editing pages. Wikipedia aims to be an encyclopedia article than anyone can edit. Using raw syntax in articles keeps that from happening. The infobox is much easier to use for those not overly familiar with how to use the syntax.
- To keep a consistent appearance of single articles throughout Wikipedia. If somebody decides to do something different with the syntax in a new article, it would then not match up with any other article that uses that syntax. With infoboxes, you can edit the syntax in one place, and the changes are reflected across Wikipedia.
- Closely related to the above, to make sure articles obey the WikiProject Music and Song guidelines (as well as Wikipedia's manual of style).
- Hope this helps. I'm about to convert the syntax at Naughty Girl to a template. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 22:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Manual of Style violations
You are making edits to Wikipedia which are breaking the Manual of Style house style which users are supposed to follow. Please stop. These are the agreed rules which everyone abides by. Continuous changing of content in articles to break agreed-upon MoS rules, when you have been asked to stop, is often seen as vandalism. Constant vandalism may lead to you being blocked from editing Wikipedia.
- Album titles should be in italics (Dangerously in Love), song titles should be in double quotation marks ("Check on It").
- There are words that, except in special cases or when they are at the beginning or end, should not be capitalised when present in album or song titles (there may be more, these are just the ones I am aware of): a, an, and, as, at, but, by, for, from, in, nor, of, on, or, over, the, to, with. Note: the fact that Dangerously In Love redirects to Dangerously in Love and Check On It leads to Check on It should be a good indicator of Wikipedia's guidelines regarding this matter.
- Words such as "featuring" and "duet with" should not be capitalised into "Featuring" and "Duet With".
In summary, here is an example of what you have been writing:
- Check On It (Featuring Slim Thug)
And here is what should be written to comply with Wikipedia's style guidelines:
- "Check on It" (featuring Slim Thug)
Hope this helps. Extraordinary Machine 20:35, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- In response to this edit to On the 6: "the" should not be capitalised as I have already told you. I've asked you to bring your edits in line with Wikipedia's Manual of Style and have explained what is wrong with them, but you continue to ignore my messages. If you make mistakes such as those I listed above again, you may be blocked from editing for a period of time. If you want to suggest changes to Wikipedia style guidelines, see Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style.
- Oh, and anon editors are not allowed to remove messages from their talk page. Extraordinary Machine 20:03, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Yes, but Wikipedia has an official policy about this; see Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Album titles and band names. Capitalisation of words like "a" and "on" is more of a style preference than a hard-and-fast rule, whatever the back of the album cover says. If nothing else, it's to make sure that there's consistency amongst article titles. Extraordinary Machine 12:56, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Recent edits to Come on over Baby (All I Want Is You) etc.
- As I've said above, the infobox template is part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs, under which all song articles fall. While it is not considered official policy, going directly against the guidelines there (and Wikipedia style guidelines in general) when you have already been asked not to is considered bad behaviour.
- Number one positions ("#1") shouldn't be bolded. Firstly, it is a violation of neutral point of view policy, and secondly, it's impossible for a single to go any higher than number one on a music chart so there's no point spelling something out for the reader that they will already know.
- Solitary year, month and year-month wikilinks (e.g. 2002, December, December 2002) are to be left out of articles unless they are significantly relevant to the topic. Extraordinary Machine 20:10, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding Stripped (Christina Aguilera album): for the third time (at least), I'm asking you to stop capitalising words like "featuring", since they're not part of the song's title and it is unnecessary to capitalise them. You've already been reported for making repeated violations of Wikipedia's Manual of Style, and you may be blocked from editing if you continue to do so. It's good that you want to improve Wikipedia, but you can't just dismiss Wikipedia's policies and style guidelines and undo any attempts made to correct your incorrect formatting. It would be appreciated if your edits were in support of the policies and guidelines rather than your own personal preferences. Extraordinary Machine 18:35, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Jennifer Lopez's awards and nominations
I've reverted the vandalism and warned the user with Template:Blatantvandal. If he persistently continues to vandalise, report him at WP:AIV, where an admin may block him. Thanks for helping Wikipedia! -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 02:05, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stop removing content
If you continue to remove content from Wikipedia, as you have continuously been doing at Crazy in Love (Beyoncé song), which is a pop–R&B song, you may be reported and blocked for a period of time. —Eternal Equinox | talk 19:41, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- You cannot remove content because of a belief; critics and fans alike have cited "Crazy in Love" as pop and R&B, and it contains prominent pop music samples. —Eternal Equinox | talk 22:13, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 3RR
You are in danger of violating the three-revert rule on a page. Please cease further reverts or you may be blocked from further editing. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 23:40, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mariah is African-American
She may not be 100% African American, but she is still considered African American. Please stop removing Category:African-American singers from her article. She is mixed as are Alicia Keys, Faith Evans, Mya, Ashanti, etc. --Musicpvm 03:29, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Repeated MoS violations
This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, as you did to The Soul Sessions, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Extraordinary Machine 14:38, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Editing without discussion
Hello. Apparantly you are either unable or unwilling to use Talk pages to resolve the above editing disputes. It is not okay to simply keep editing to your own individual preferences, ignoring both the concerns of other editors and the house Manual of Style. Please discuss this with the other editors who are expressing concerns, and come to a reasonable solution that does not involve undoing the work of people correcting style usage. I will take a lack of response from this IP as an unwillingness to work collaboratively. Jkelly 23:03, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- Redirects that aren't broken (e.g. R&B) shouldn't be fixed (e.g. don't turn R&B into R&B). See WP:RDR#Don.27t_fix_links_to_redirects_that_aren.27t_broken.
- Every time you make an edit in violation of the MoS you will be reverted, so you may as well stop wasting everybody's time (including your own). If you want to propose changes to the MoS, see Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style. Extraordinary Machine 17:14, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Temporarily blocked
I have temporarily disallowed editing from this IP address in response to editor complaints that the user of this IP refuses to discuss their editing on Talk pages. Any user from this IP can edit this particular Talk page to leave a commitment that they will discuss their editing with other contributors when asked to. Upon such a commitment being made, editing priveleges will be immediately restored. Thanks. Jkelly 00:49, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. In regards to the note you left, there is probably a great deal of flexibility on some style issues, less flexibility on others, and a good reason for doing other things one particular way. The problem is that, without any willingness to discuss the changes on your part, it cannot be sorted out with other editors what makes sense and how to accomodate aesthetic preferences, ease of editing, technical restrictions, and any other factor. Just be willing to discuss your edits with other users and it is likely that things will go much more smoothly. Some of the grumpiest comments on this talk page are from users who are normally very easy to get along with. Please do take the extra time to discuss things going forward. Jkelly 18:35, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- That will make things much easier for everybody. If you're going to be editing music articles, you may want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Music and Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums. Oh, and getting an actual account is often helpful. Best of luck with your editing. Jkelly 19:51, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Genres
You are vandalizing several artists' and singles' articles by continually changing the genres to innacurate ones. Please stop. --Musicpvm 22:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Number-ones pages
Hi, thanks for updating the wikilinks. Just an FYI you've added some artists that were not credited on the Billboard Hot 100 and I have removed those to maintain accuracy. Thanks. -- eo 21:25, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- The reason I suggested a merge of the two JLo songs is because they are very closely related and one was presented as a "remix" of the other.... their sales/airplay was combined on a lot of music charts and the remix even caused a change in Billboard chart policy (and perhaps the charts of other countries as well), so I think if combined that could make one article that is much more interesting and thorough. I guess I should have put this explanation on their Talk Pages to begin with when I put the merge tag on it. -- eo 23:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] More MoS violations
On articles such as Possibilities and Raven-Symoné discography, you've again been repeatedly editing articles away from Wikipedia's style policies and guidelines. You said you would discuss these issues with other editors, but you do not appear to have made any effort to do so. Like I've told you more than once, if you disagree with the style policies and guidelines then you can suggest they be changed at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style and other places. What you shouldn't do, however, is ignore what other editors have told you and continue editing as you were. You've already been blocked once; I assume you don't that to happen again. Extraordinary Machine 13:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- At Stripped (Christina Aguilera album) you've reinserted links to years and month-years in violation of the WP:DATE guidelines. This definitely isn't the first time you've ignored requests to abide by the Manual of Style; if you continue behaving as you've been doing, you may find yourself blocked from editing for the second time.
- At Dangerously in Love 2 you've (twice) changed "R&B/Hip Hop Singles & Tracks" to "R&B/Hip Hop Songs". It's factually inaccurate to do that, because the chart didn't have that title back then. Just like we don't change every "Snoop Doggy Dogg" reference to "Snoop Dogg" or "Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott" to "Missy Elliot". Extraordinary Machine 12:59, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Sorry for the late reply. I do know that Billboard calls the chart "R&B/Hip Hop Songs" now, but it didn't used to, so retroactively changing every reference to it introduces inaccuracies. As for the Spice Girls/All Saints vandalism, you can warn the user yourself with the warning templates at WP:VAND#Warning_templates, and then if (s)he persists after the fourth warning, report him/her at WP:AIAV. Extraordinary Machine 09:57, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Geri Halliwell
This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia.
Please stop blanking pages from Wikipedia. Thank you. smileydude66 15:07, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Geri Halliwell ( Copied from User talk:Smileydude66 )
I only meant to make this edit, I didn't mean to do that. I may have done it accidentally, or another person whose IP address is the same as mine (if it's possible) has done it, but I can assure you that it was not my intention.

Above comment ( Re: Geri Halliwell ) was copied from my talk page ( User talk:Smileydude66 ) and posted here as this comment is more relevant to his/her own editing than it is mine. I simply brought the blanking to his/her attention. smileydude66 16:02, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Explanation
I've copied your explanation from my talk page onto your own talk page so people will know that you've explained yourself. Thank you for that. Just remember to be really careful about not blanking other people's hard work on here. Thank you for your contributions! smileydude66 16:02, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ancestries
Well, we don't add categories based on everyone's grandparent or great-grandparent. If there's a source that says some IS Polish-American, they should be categorized as that. If they have X, Y, Z, D, M ancestry it can be noted in their article but certainly not a category for each one! So they don't have to be 100% of something to be in a category, they just have to be specifically referred to as that. Wiki editors can't decide who is an X-American. Mad Jack 03:25, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- The category on Aguilera is there because there are sources that describe Aguilera as an "Ecuadorian-American", or "Ecuadorian-Irish". Rather then "she has Ecuadorian ancestry". We can't deduce that just because JoJo has some Polish, Irish, French, and so on ancestry she is immediately a Polish-American, an Irish-American, A French American and also a Native American! We need a source that calls her that. That's how the X-American lists are organized now, and the categories should follow suit Mad Jack 21:23, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Right that's more or less what I mean. But she doesn't have a grandfather who was born in France. I'm not sure "how French" she is or "how much" she is of every one of those ancestries. I don't believe she has ever been described as any X-American herself, in fact she said here [1] "I'm an American first and foremost". But of course you could try looking for reliable sources (i.e. not the IMDB or other trivia sites) that describe her as that. See for example List of French Americans on the kind of sources we need if we are to describe someone as X-American Mad Jack 21:30, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Capitalisation in song and album titles
I really do appreciate that you are using the single infobox now rather than the HTML (and I'm sure many other users will too), so thanks for that. However, you are still editing song and album titles in violation of Wikipedia's naming conventions. Please stop this; your changes will be undone anyway, and you might be blocked again. I know you want to make positive contributions to the project, so please don't perform edits that end up doing the opposite. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 23:10, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, please don't edit articles to say that Beyonce Knowles isn't a pop musician. Even her own website says she is pop [2]. Extraordinary Machine 23:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. I just wanted to leave you a note and thank you for your contributions and for working with other editors within our guidelines. Much appreciated. Jkelly 21:14, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Please Use Edit Summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Wikipediarules2221 21:42, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply. I don't know much about Beyonce, so I can't really comment on that. I agree with Jkelly; thanks for working collaboratively and for using the infobox template. If you're not sure whether a word in a song or album title should be capitalised, feel free to ask on my talk page. Also, please consider creating an account, because that means you'll be able to perform page moves and upload images and things. Extraordinary Machine 00:25, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Dates
Advice: How to use dates on Wikipedia Please don't change the dates. Most British people and many people internationally write dates as dd/mm/yy, eg, 12 December 1904. Most Americans use mm/dd/yy, eg, December 12 1904. If the article is about an American topic, use mm/dd/yy. If it is a British topic, use dd/mm/yy. If neither, leave it as originally written. Many Americans or British people take offence if an article written about their country and which was written in their local version of English is changed around to a version they don't use. So please do not do that.
All dates usually have two square boxes around them, as in 12 December or December 12. This means that you can set your preferences (if you look around your screen you'll see the word preferences. Just hit that and follow the instructions) to ensure that you see all dates in the format you want, whether dd/mm/yy, mm/dd/yy or yyyy-mm-dd. The general rules on how Wikipedia articles are written can be seen in our Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Type in WP:MS and you'll see the page.
If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Enjoy your time on the web's fastest growing encyclopædia (or encyclopedia, if you write it that way!). Thank you. -- AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:01, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
