The 2008 Iowa Republican caucuses are in reality more of an unofficial primary, with the delegates to the state convention selected proportionally via a straw poll.

in this, as in former cycles when the presidential race was competitive, there will be two separate straw polls. The unofficial one in August of 2007, and the "real" one on the same day as the Democratic contest.
