1 Canadian Air Division

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

1 Canadian Air Division is the command and control center of the Canadian Air Force based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is also the headquarters (HQ) for the Canadian NORAD Region (CANR). The headquarters commands all 13 wings of the operational Air Force in Canada and one in Europe and oversees the monitoring of Canada's airspace in support of commitments to the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD).

The headquarters is staffed by 600 regular and reserve force members 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to military personnel the base is manned by civilian personnel working, including the Operational Research and Analysis Directorate (ORAD).

The official abbreviation for the division used in memos and internal documents is 1CdnAirDiv, though prior to 2006 it was known as 1CAD. The abbreviation was changed due to the negative connotations of the term "cad".
