[edit] Category guidelines

An editor using this IP address created Category:Time Travel films and added a number of films to the category, but there were several problems with this editing:

  1. The category doesn't follow Wikipedia:Naming conventions policy, which is to capitalize only the first word and proper nouns. The correct category is Category:Time travel films.
  2. Any film titles that begin with an article (a, an, or the) should have a link label putting the article on the end, like so:
    [[Category:Time travel films|Jacket, The]]
This allows standard English sorting; i.e., by the first significant word ("J" in the example, instead of "T").
  3. Categories should always be included in a parent category. Ideally, one should also ensure that each article one adds to a category isn't also included in the parent category, because the more specific one implies the more generic one.

I've created the new category and moved all the existing categorized films into it. I've also added text that is more in line with the preferred explanatory paragraph than the advice given in the old one. More information on categories is available at Wikipedia:Category and related articles. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 18:54, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, that was very helpful. I appreciate the advice.

[edit] Signing Talk Pages

I noticed you have written on some talk pages but have not signed your username. You can do this by adding four tildes, ~~~~, after your response, which automatically adds your username and the time of the comment. This will make it easier for other users to respond to you. - AKeen 06:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm holding out for some kind of "real world" guarantee that a person using a particular IP address is always that very person using that very IP address. Seeing as how that isn't going to be happening very soon, I will have to refrain from 'signing' my name one way or the other.
