User talk:198.150.162.9

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

School IP address Attention:

This IP address, 198.150.162.9, is registered to University of Wisconsin-Madison and may be shared by multiple users of an educational institution. In the case of institutions using proxy servers, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many physical computers.

For this reason a message intended for one person may be received by another. Similarly an innocent user may get blocked for another user's vandalism. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism, in which case please read our advice on this situation.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block with the template {{schoolblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: In the event of persistent vandalism, anonymous editing from this IP address may be disabled for up to 6 months at a time while abuse reports may be forwarded to your school administration for investigation in case of long-term abuse by registered users.

Attention:

This IP address, 198.150.162.9, is registered to Eau Claire Area School District and may be shared by multiple users. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself.

However, you might still be unable to edit Wikipedia if the IP you are using is blocked due to a MediaWiki "feature". In such a case you could request to be unblocked.

In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts will be made to contact University of Wisconsin to report network abuse.

This IP has been repeatedly blocked from editing Wikipedia in response to vandalism. Further acts of vandalism from this IP may result in another immediate block without warning.

[edit] October 2005

  1. This IP address is sometimes assigned to me apparently, as well as to some anon users. Leaving newbie test messages here is somewhat worthless, since the IP range (which is from dslextreme in the Los Angeles area) is assigned dynamically. I'm not a vandal and have never and would never vandalise wikipedia. Unless I am logged out by accident, I always edit under my own user name. There is a group of young editors who (at rare times) edit as User:Kid_Power or some similar name... these are local kids who edit from my house as well. They don't typically edit anonymously either. I'm adding this user page to my watchlist. That's the most I can do. Pedant 17:06, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] January 2006

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits, such as those you made to Henry VIII of England, are considered vandalism. If you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks. — Kbh3rdtalk 18:16, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
