Kissology Volume One: 1974–1977 is a DVD/Home Video released by Kiss on October 31, 2006. It contains two discs, plus a bonus disc. The contents of the bonus disc vary depending on the retailer. The Wal-Mart release contains a 1977 performance in Largo, Maryland. The Best Buy release contains a 1976 performance at Cobo Arena, from a different night than the one featured on disc one. The third bonus disc (all other retailers) contains excerpts from a 1977 concert at Madison Square Garden.
The two main discs also contain easter eggs. The first disc contains a clip of Kiss performing "Deuce" at the Coventry Club in 1973. This is the earliest known footage of the band in existence, and is shot with a single camera from the back of the club. The second disc's easter egg is previously unreleased footage of the group (without makeup) performing at Ace Frehley's 1976 wedding.
Also included with the DVD set is a 20-page color booklet, with commentary on each portion of the DVD. A replica of Kiss's "Spring Tour '75" backstage pass is included as an iron on.
As a promotional effort for Kissology Volume One, National CineMedia promoted a one-night screening of selected portions of the DVD at a limited number of theaters, on October 26, 2006. The screening began with an introductory interview with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, and included the documentary of Kiss's 1975 trip to Cadillac, Michigan, as well as a 1976 Cobo Arena concert (both from Disc 1).[1]
As of January 2007, the set is certified quintuple platinum in the United States.[2]
