- January 2, President Ayub Khan defeats his main opponent, the Mother of the Nation Fatima Jinnah in the presidential elections amid opposition accusations of mass rigging of the polls. The tyrant military dictator Ayub Khan rules Pakistan illegally despite the mass support to Quaid's sister even the Jamaat-e-Islami accepted her but to no avail; she was against the war and she was against the cease-fire in Kashmir.
- September 6, the Indo-Pakistan war begins. The 17-day war, when the East Pakistan was left undefended, weakened the already fraying national ties between the two wings.
