The Brazilian military coup of 1964 was a coup d'état led by militaries under the command of General Olimpio Mourão Filho that overthrew the president João Goulart and installed the Brazilian military dictatorship, in the night of 31 March 1964. This coup was supported by the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson (administration of John F. Kennedy had begun planning for such an event in 1962).[1]
