- 4 January - Tuanku Syed Putra of Perlis is installed as the third Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
- February - Tunku Abdul Rahman plans to form the new federations called Malaysia merged with Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, Brunei, and Sarawak.
- 9 March - International Quran Reading Competition is held for the first time.
- May - First Malayan Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca.
- June - Congo Peacekeeping Mission (1960-1962). Malaya sent 1,947 personnel were dispatched as part of the United Nations Operation in the Congo or ONUC.
