Restoring copyvio material after you have been warned is vandalism and the next time you do that you will be blocked. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:20, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Ok, Ok, I geuss I'll have to re-write it at some time then.

Thanks and if you could remove the copyvio stuff from Clan Munro as well. I've found some but I don't know if I got all of it. You look as if yor are making an attempt at proper editing so why not get an account. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 21:37, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Exactly which bits on the Clan Munro are you refering to ? The photos are used with permission of Clan Munro Assosiation Canada, Clan Munro Assosiation Australia & Clan Munro Assosiation USA. All the accounts of battles and history I have re-written after consulting many sources inclusding books aswell as other websites.
Sorry I was away. What I ment to ask was if there was anymore. I see that someone has rewritten the stuff I removed and it's back in. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:26, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes I have re-written it so it is definatly not copyright, which is what I tried to do the first time round.

[edit] Clan Munro?

Thanks for your comments, but I'm not clear on why you are directing them at me, other than the fact that my name is Munro. Although I watch the Clan Munro article for vandalism, I haven't edited it in a long time, and I don't recall ever making any claim that the clan was particularly "peaceable" -- their history has been as warlike as many other clans in Scotland. If you're referring to the abandoned subpage in my userspace, started before there were any Clan articles in Wikipedia, that's ancient history; in fact I think I'll go delete it now. Thank you for working on our Scottish articles, continue to contribute information in your own words, and be sure to cite your sources. We welcome your input! — Catherine\talk 19:06, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Well the usual historical system is to follow the spelling in use by the individual concerned. Thus the famous writer of the history of Mackey's Regiment in Swedish service is Robert Monro. He is indexed by this spelling in the DNB and the newer Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.

In order to conform with these far more senior publications, the headers of the two errant articles Robert Munro (+1633) and ditto (+1680) perhaps should be altered to Sir Robert Monro of Obsdale (+1680) Robert Monro of Foulis (+1633)?

[edit] Clan Fraser

Hello there. Over on the Scottish clan article, you edited the Fraser origins to include Highland. You seem to have somewhat of a knowledge of these matters, and I invite you to create a User acount of your own, and join me in expanding and editing Scottish Clan articles here on Wikipedia. Now, on to the matter at hand. While many Frasers did indeed move to Inverness-shire, and form a Gaelic Clan, and adapt the Gaelic dress, language, and social structure, many Frasers also stayed in the Lowlands. The Highlanders are referred to as the Frasers of Lovat, and the primary lowland family are the Frasers of Philorth, now Saltoun. The Philorths hold Castle Fraser, in Aberdeen-shire, and other lowland Frasers come from Peebles, Stirling-shire, Angus, and some are even from Manx, though I wouldn't call them lowlanders. The Philorths, the lowland Frasers, and not from the Highlands by any stretch of the imagination, and this is why the article excludes highlang in the Fraser origins. The Fraser of Lovat origins are clearly there, however, showing Highland. Image:Icons-flag-scotland.png Canæn Image:Icons-flag-scotland.png 06:42, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

I do have an account. I wrote 90% of the Clan articles here. I did not write the Clan Fraser one though, although I have added little bits to it. I thought both of the Fraser clans were highland. On the Clan Fraser page there is a map showing their territory next to the Clan MacKintosh. I was sure that that was the Clan Fraser and Fraser of Lovat with their territories beside one another. That must just be the Frasers of Lovat then. The official Highland boundry does go right down to south of the Clan Campbell. Although some would prefer the 'highland' area to be those north of Loch Ness only :). You could be right though. If you look at this clan map here: http://www.burkes-peerage.net/sites/scotland/sitepages/cmindex.asp it does sow several areas of Fraser territory, the one in square C2 is indeed Lowland. mjgm84 18:33, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Battle of Culloden

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent contribution removed content from Battle of Culloden. Please be more careful when editing articles and do not remove content from Wikipedia without a good reason, which should be specified in the edit summary. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Thank you. dave souza, talk 11:34, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

I do have good reason to edit these with the correct historical facts. 195.137.109.177 11:47, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Correctness requires citation to meet WP:V using reliable sources. As far as I can see your edits consist of original research, and as such will have to be reverted unless proper citations are provided. .. dave souza, talk 11:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Can you do me a favour. I was banned a while ago for uploading images, I wasn't sure about the copyright status back then. If you unban me I can provide sources for all edits. My username is Mjgm84 thanks 195.137.109.177 12:19, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

A couple of points. Sources are needed for edits to stay in Wikipedia, whether you're a banned user or not. The edit I've noticed you making conflicts a bit with a book that came to hand which expands on what was there previously, so my intention is to improve that section, with an inline citation. If someone has published a different opinion that has to be properly referenced. Secondly, while I'm willing to try to help you get unblocked, there does seem to have been a recurring problem with getting properly documented permissions for using images, and with showing due credit on the image page. Looking through the pages you've been referred to, Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed indicates that image pages should have a note stating that you've sent confirmation of permission on to the m:OTRS system, and ultimately a PermissionOTRS|ticket tag which others would put on to confirm the copyright status. Picking a couple of example, there's no evidence of this that I can see on Image:ClanGordonMap.jpg and Image:MunroCastleFoulis2.jpg. If you can clarify what's happened with these images and all the others you've uploaded that will give me something to go on. .. dave souza, talk 22:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

The Image:MunroCastleFoulis2.jpg picture was used with permission of the Clan Munro Association USA http://www.clanmunrousa.org/history.html under agreement of the GNU licence. I had to ask for that because there is a copyright notice on the web page. The web page which contains the Image:ClanGordonMap.jpg picture, if you go to the page about copyright http://www.ancestralscotland.com/tandc.html it pretty much explains that you are allowed to use their material. 195.137.109.177 10:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Firstly, have you followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed and sent confirmation of permission on to the m:OTRS system? That's clearly necessary – for a timely reminder see A picture paints a thousand invoices. Now I'm afraid that absence of copyright notice doesn't mean it's copyright free, and the ancestralscotland link clearly explains that "Except where expressly indicated otherwise, copyright in all of the Contents of the Web Site belongs to visitscotland.com or its third party licensors. Notwithstanding the foregoing, visitscotland.com hereby authorises you as a User to:- view and display the Contents; download the Contents and store them in your computer (for example in the browser's cache) for a period not exceeding thirty days, provided that the User also downloads this copyright notice; and print out the Contents, provided that the User also prints an acknowledgement in the form set out below and attaches it to any printed copy of any of the Contents. Form of acknowledgement required where the Contents (or any of them) are reproduced : '© 2002 visitscotland.com. Reproduced with permission.'" That certainly doesn't look like the GNU FDL, or any other free licence we can use, so looks like that map will have to be deleted. Could you please ensure that all the permissions you have received are with the m:OTRS system, and highlight any images you thought were freely available for checking. Thanks, dave souza, talk 20:26, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Well delete what you have to delete. From now on, if you unbann me I won't upload anymore images. However may I upload a photograph which I have taken myself without worry of copyright  ? 195.137.109.177 09:51, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
To get you unblocked, Wikipedia:Blocking policy#If you disagree with a block requires discussing the matter with the blocking admin, so if we can show that any problems with uploaded images have been resolved that gives us a good basis to go on. There's no problem with photographs you've taken yourself provided that you make them available under a suitable licence, and they're not just pictures of something copyrighted such as a modern painting: see Wikipedia:Image use policy. A lot of the images seem to be album covers which should be ok for fair use illustration of an article reviewing the album, some are of paintings as at Image:Falkirk1.jpg where the licence tag shows it as "released into the public domain by the copyright holder" – as with the castle photographs, this means getting permission confirmed and forwarded to the Wikimedia PR department at the e-mail address "permissions AT wikimedia DOT org", so it would be great if you could forward any emails that you've still not sent on: see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for the full procedure. Note that this isn't necessary if the artist who produced the image died more than 70 years ago, when all that's needed is naming the artist and using the Template:PD-art-life-70 tag – Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Public domain gives more info. Hope that helps, dave souza, talk 16:27, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
OK
Glad to note your comment on my talk page, any progress on sending confirmation of previous permissions on to the m:OTRS system? If there's a difficulty in getting clear permission for any of the images you've uploaded, could you list those ones for deletion, and remove links to them from pages they're been used on – once we can show the problems have been sorted, I think you'll have a pretty good case. .. dave souza, talk 19:40, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for responding on my talk page. If you don't have emails confirming permission under a suitable licence for Wikipedia to use images you want kept, a useful basis for an email requesting permission is at Wikipedia:Example requests for permission#Informal (images), which importantly gives information on suitable licences together with links: you could adapt this to your own needs. To find all the images you've uploaded, go to User:Mjgm84 and in the toolbox to the left under the search buttons, click on the "User contributions" link, then go through the pages – probably useful to click on "Oldest" then see each page by clicking View "(Newer 100)". When you've got together your request email and a reply giving permission, follow the procedure at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission#When permission is confirmed to send in a combined email, and mark up the image page accordingly. Use the same procedure with the emails you've already got. If there are images that you can't get agreement to or don't think are worth keeping, give me links and I can get them deleted. Hope that's helpful, if you want more guidance let me know. .. dave souza, talk 12:38, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
