The 1947 English cricket season is remembered for the batting performances of Denis Compton and Bill Edrich who established seasonal records that will probably not be broken.

England defeated South Africa 3-0 with two matches drawn. Four of Denis Compton's record 18 centuries in a season were scored in the Test series alone.
