- July 1 - Ray Knight stages the first Raymond Stampede in Raymond, Alberta, and in so doing coined the rodeo word "stampede," thus launching his rodeo career as the world's first rodeo producer and stock contractor, as well as being the world's richest rodeo promoter with some one million acres (4000 km²) of ranchland with 18,000 head of cattle and 3,000 head of horses. The Raymond Stampede is now Canada's oldest rodeo
