The 1893 English cricket season was the first year in which the County Championship was officially won by a team other than Surrey. They finished fifth, while Yorkshire won twelve matches to take the title. The Australian cricket team toured England for the first time in three years, and lost 0–1 in three Tests.

England won their fifth successive Ashes series at home, only a year and a half after the Australians had conquered the Ashes with a 2–1 victory in Australia. WG Grace was injured for one of the Test, but captained the other two. The first Test ended in a draw, but England took advantage of a 392-run lead on first innings to beat the visitors by an innings and 43 runs in the second Test.
