This article is a review of the 1864-65 to 1890-91 West Indian cricket seasons.
The inaugural first-class match in the West Indies was Barbados v Demerara (now Guyana) at Garrison Savannah in Bridgetown on 15-16 February 1865. It was arranged as a 2-day match with 5-ball overs. Barbados won by 138 runs.
First-class matches were sporadic in the early years of West Indian cricket, mainly because of travel difficulties between the islands. The seasons in which matches have been recorded are:
