- 25 March (Julian calendar)/April 6 (Gregorian calendar) - Greece declares its independence from the Ottoman Empire, beginning the Greek War of Independence.

- June 19 - Decisive defeat of the Philikí Etaireía by the Ottomans at Drăgăşani (in Wallachia).
