The 17th West Virginia was organzed at Wheeling in western Virginia between September 26, 1864 andFebruary 25, 1865.

The regiment was mustered out on June 30, 1865.

The 17th West Virginia Infantry suffered 1 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded in battle and 24 enlisted men dead from disease for a total of 25 fatalities.[1]
